Member of Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly and Chairman of the Andhra Legislative Assembly Welfare Committee for Children with Special Needs (CWSN) Sundarapu Vijay Sreekumar on Thursday reaffirmed the State government’s commitment to inclusive education.

Speaking at the valedictory session of two-day roundtable on “Realising Inclusive Education from School to University”, jointly organised by Sri Aurobindo Society and Andhra Loyola College, Mr. Sreekumar said the establishment of 125 Autism Support Centres in government schools this year reflects Andhra Pradesh’s resolve to make inclusive education a reality — from anganwadis to University level.

The MLA called for coordinated efforts among the departments of Women and Child Welfare, School, Higher and College Education and Department of Health to ensure quality education for every child with special needs.

Speaking in the capacity of an industry partner, vice president and HR head of Malladi Drugs and Pharmaceuticals, Chennai, Anthony Thiagarajan, said inclusive education was not only a social responsibility but an investment in the future of children, families, and communities. He emphasised that industry and society must actively support educational pathways for children with disabilities and added that future belongs to those who can learn, unlearn and relearn.

The roundtable recommended stronger collaboration among government, educational institutions, families, industry, and civil society, continuous capacity-building of educators and parents, strengthening Bhavita and institutional resource centres with accessible technologies and developing structured parent support systems.

Chief Human Resource Officer and Chief Programme Officer of Sri Aurobindo Society, Simmi Mahajan, and others also spoke.
