Hundreds of protesters gather near the Spanish Parliament in Madrid to honour Maricarmen Abascal, an 87-year-old pensioner who died a month after being evicted from her longtime home.

Candles, flowers and a sign reading 'Adios Maricarmen' are placed nearby as demonstrators raise their arms and chant slogans.

Her death has intensified anger over Spain's housing crisis. A protest camp remains in Puerta del Sol, with tents, banners and flyers filling the square.

Demonstrators are calling for greater action from the authorities, while Spain's main unions have announced a general strike for November 11 over housing and wages.
