Aldi is closing some of its stores an hour earlier as part of a new trial.

The shops will close one hour earlier at 9pm instead of 10pm. Some stores have already introduced the earlier close time, while others will follow this month.

Aldi has not revealed which stores are being affected, but signs are being put up in shops to notify customers, according to The Sun.

One shop worker in Heanor, Derbyshire, wrote on Facebook: “Please be aware that as of Monday 13th July, Aldi Heanor will be closing at 9pm instead of 10pm Monday-Saturday with no change on a Sunday, this will be on a trial basis to begin with but will likely be the new permanent opening hours thereafter.”

The newspaper reports that another Aldi employee said their branch in the West Midlands was to close at 9pm from July 16.

Aldi has 1,084 stores and around 48 currently shut at 9pm. The supermarket has a long-term goal of having 1,500 stores in the UK.

Aldi said: “As the UK’s cheapest supermarket, our commitment to customers is that they will always pay the lowest possible prices every time they shop with us.

“Our efficient business model means that we are always looking for new ways to pass on even greater savings to Aldi shoppers.”

It comes after Aldi revealed it will open 16 new stores over the coming months and has revealed a full list of locations.

The budget supermarket will open new locations in areas including Watford and Hoxton in London, Hattersley in Greater Manchester, and Balsall Common in the West Midlands.

The budget supermarket will also soon upgrade 25 stores across the UK. Some of the changes include more space to shop and more sustainable features, such as energy-efficient fridge doors.

Aldi will also upgrade its bakery, health and beauty and fresh food areas in select locations. The changes will vary by location.

Some of the places that are set for store improvements include Liverpool, London, Aberdeen, Nottingham and Manchester.

In addition, stores in York, Liverpool and Yarm will undergo extensions to provide wider aisles and create a more spacious shopping environment.

The improvements are part of a wider £300million investment into existing stores, alongside a £370million commitment to opening new stores across the UK.
