The ex-prince was arrested on his 66th birthday and he was allegedly handed a name by cops who kept him at a police station for 11 hours on his big day

Disgraced Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was reportedly handed a name by police during his 11-hour arrest on his birthday.

A source claimed Andrew was dubbed "Detainee A" during his arrest last month, so cops could supposedly avoid possible claims of favourable treatment towards the ex-Duke.

He was arrested at his home on Wood Farm, on the private Sandringham Estate, after unmarked Thames Valley Police cars swooped onto the grounds early on his 66th birthday - on February 19.

A source told the Sun: "It brings it home doesn't it? To go from Prince and Duke and Earl, Baron, Knight — all those fancy titles then suddenly you're Detainee A.

"He must have thought just being plain 'Andy' was awful at one point. I don’t suppose he thought it could get much worse."

Andrew's arrest was the culmination of months of speculation about his relationship with paedophile pal Jeffrey Epstein. The former prince has consistently and strenuously denied any wrongdoing.

The ex-prince was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office and was released under investigation later that day. The Mirror has contacted Thames Valley Police and Norfolk Constabulary for comment.
