GUWAHATI
The Congress rout in Assam was partly a rejection of the politics of “blue blood”, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said after the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance scripted a hat-trick of electoral victories by winning 102 of the State’s 126 Assembly seats on Monday (May 4, 2026).
He referred to the sons of three former Chief Ministers, Gaurav Gogoi, Debabrata Saikia, and Diganta Barman, who are the sons of Tarun Gogoi, Hiteswar Saikia, and Bhumidhar Barman, respectively.
