Addressing a gathering after leading a road show at West Bengal’s Behala on Monday (April 27, 2026), Union Home Minister Amit Shah said Central forces would remain deployed in West Bengal for at least seven more days after the elections, even if the BJP comes to power and urged voters to cast their votes without fear.
“Brothers and sisters, go and vote on the 29th, do not worry about the goons. The Election Commission has made extensive security arrangements, and I am telling you that even though the BJP will come to power, Central forces will remain here for seven days,” he said.
The roadshow was held on the final day of campaigning in support of the BJP candidates for Behala Purba and Behala Paschim, turning the south Kolkata neighbourhood into a sea of saffron.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a poll rally in West Bengal’s Barrackpore on Monday (April 27, 2026). He said, “Barrackpore had given strength to first war of Independence in 1857; this very land today is paving way for a change in West Bengal.”
PM Modi also said, “From mood of Bengal I sensed, I will come again during oath-taking ceremony of BJP government.” He said that after adjoining Odisha and Bihar, lotus will bloom in West Bengal this time.
Mr. Modi said, “By abrogating Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, the BJP fulfilled one of Syama Prasad Mookerjee’s resolutions.”
