The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged irregularities in donations at the Ayodhya Ram Temple submitted its preliminary report on Tuesday (June 23, 2026) to the Uttar Pradesh government.

The team, comprising Vijay Vishwas Pant, Commissioner of the Lucknow Division, along with the other two members, visited the office of Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Sanjay Prasad and handed over the report. Officials said the document is currently a preliminary report and further investigation may be required.

They said the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe is still under way and further facts are being gathered.

The Uttar Pradesh government had on June 13 constituted the SIT on a request from the temple trust following allegations of misappropriation of donations received at the Ayodhya Ram temple.

Congress demanded the report to be released public and pushed for a white paper on donation issue with all records and bank statements.

“The SIT from day one is an eyewash for protecting the corrupt people who looted the faith of common devotee of Bhagwan Ram. When massive corruption issue is in public domain, what is confidentiality the government is doing. We demand the report to be made public. The need is to release all records related to monetary transactions of the trust and Ram Temple for transparency and accountability. The CCTV footage and bank statements should also be released for a broader public scrutiny. The BJP-RSS people looted the Ram Temple. We also demand an investigation from a Supreme Court judge into the matter,” said Ajay Kumar Lallu, a senior Uttar Pradesh Congress leader.
