Netflix has dropped the first teaser trailer for the Ben Affleck-directed political thriller Animals, and even without any dialogue, it’s intense.

Animals tells the story of Mayor candidate Mark Kimball who receives a call that his son has been kidnapped. As Mark and his wife attempt to raise the ransom, Mark finds himself at a crossroads that could expose secrets.

Gillian Anderson (The Crown, The X-Files) and Steven Yeun (BEEF, Minari) also star alongside Affleck and Washington in this crime thriller. Luis Gerardo Méndez (Club de Cuervos, Murder Mystery), Adriana Paz (Emilia Pérez, Spectre), Ray Fisher (Zack Snyder’s Justice League, The Piano Lesson), Matt Gerald (Avatar, Daredevil), Christopher Woodley (Our Son, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit), and Jacob Estrada round out the cast.

Synopsis |When Los Angeles mayoral candidate Mark Kimball (Affleck) receives a phone call that his son has been kidnapped, he and his wife Abigail (Kerry Washington) must scramble to come up with a ransom payment. But with most of the couple’s money spent on Mark’s political campaign, they’re forced to make choices that could expose secrets and tear their world apart.

In addition to starring in and directing the film, Affleck also co-wrote it alongside Billy Ray (The Hunger Games, Captain Phillips) and Connor O. McIntyre.

The film is produced in partnership with Artists Equity, the artist-led studio founded by Affleck, Matt Damon, and Gerry Cardinale of RedBird Capital.

Animals is set to receive a limited theatrical release (TBD for the UK and Ireland) and will be available to stream globally on Netflix in the Autumn.
