Canadian government officials marked the opening of the Gordie Howe International Bridge connecting Windsor, Ont., to Detroit, Mich., on Friday, without the U.S., after President Donald Trump threatened steep new tariffs on Canada. The bridge is scheduled to open to traffic on July 27 under a revenue-sharing agreement with the United States, struck after Trump delayed the opening by more than a month. "This bridge is a testament to what we can build when we work together. And it represents the partnership, the resilience, and the belief that investing in the future strengthens us all," Infrastructure Minister Gregor Robertson said Friday. Robertson had said in a statement previously that celebrating the opening alongside the U.S. would "not be appropriate." He was joined by Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkins. Prime Minister Mark Carney, who is visiting a national park in Newfoundland and Labrador, did not attend.
