Vozinha, the Cape Verde goalkeeper who become something of a sensation at this summer’s World Cup, is set to sign for Chilean club Colo Colo.

The 40-year-old produced a string of memorable saves – most notably in the goalless draw against eventual winners Spain – as World Cup debutants Cape Verde reached the last 32, where they narrowly fell to finalists Argentina after extra-time.

Vozinha, real name Josimar Jose Evora Dias, quickly garnered legendary status, garnering a string of new admirers, not to mention a few dozen million additional Instagram followers.

And now it appears he has found new employers, with Colo Colo club president Anibal Mosa seemingly announcing the deal ahead of the team’s match against Deportes Limache on Friday.

“Vozinha ​will be a Colo Colo player,” Mosa said.

“In the ​coming days he will travel to Chile, undergo the usual medical examinations and then be presented here at the ​Estadio Monumental.”

Although the deal has yet to be finalised, Colo Colo teased the signing on social media with an ​image appearing ​to show ⁠the veteran goalkeeper’s trademark curly hair.

Vozinha, who was voted by fans into the World Cup team of the tournament, had been looking for a new club after his contract with Portuguese second-division side Chaves expired at the end of last season.

It now seems he will join a club widely regarded as the most successful in Chilean football history.
