This launch marks the conclusion of a highly successful numismatic collection that has captured the cultural and historical essence of Costa Rica’s seven provinces.
A Tribute to San José’s Architectural Jewel
The National Theater, located in the heart of San José, is widely regarded as one of the country’s most valuable architectural and cultural masterpieces. By featuring it on the final ₡25 coin, the BCCR honors a symbol of Costa Rican pride, freedom, and appreciation for the arts.
Like previous editions in this series, the coin will be available in two distinct formats: a premium collectible version and a regular circulation version.
Collectible Version: Prices and Purchasing Limits
For coin collectors and enthusiasts, the BCCR will offer the special edition, which features vibrant colored details highlighting the intricate design of the National Theater.
Price: ₡8,400 (Available in two different high-quality display presentations).
Where to buy: Authorized financial institutions and commercial banks across the country.
Purchase Limit: To ensure fair distribution, sales are strictly limited to two pieces per person.
Regular Circulation and Everyday Use
For the general public, there is no need to rush to the banks to appreciate this new design. The Central Bank confirmed that the regular circulation version (without color) will also enter the financial ecosystem on May 20.
This version will circulate alongside current coins and will be accepted at its nominal value of ₡25 for all everyday cash transactions nationwide.
The “Emblematic Sites of Our Provinces” series has successfully blended local history with modern coin design, turning everyday pocket change into a celebration of Costa Rican identity. Make sure to keep an eye on your change starting next Wednesday to spot the beautiful new tribute to the National Theater!
