The Centre has asked States and Union Territories to nominate senior and junior civil servants for a structured mentorship and knowledge-sharing interactions at the Statue of Unity in Gujarat, officials said on Thursday.
The move came following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's observation during the 5th National Conference of Chief Secretaries held in December 2025 at NITI Aayog here.
Modi, in his closing remarks, asked "the earlier batches of IAS and other services to motivate the younger groups by visiting the Statue of Unity and spending a day with them each year on October 31".
It seeks to encourage meaningful engagement between senior and younger civil servants through structured mentorship and knowledge-sharing interactions at the Statue of Unity on October 31, observed as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) and the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, carries immense symbolic significance and reinforce the ideals of national unity.
Accordingly, all state governments are requested to nominate a group of senior/veteran as well as young Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers from diverse batches and with expertise across varied domains of governance, public administration, policy formulation etc. for participation in the proposed mentorship and knowledge-sharing interactions to be organised annually on the occasion of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas at the Statue of Unity, an order issued recently by the Personnel Ministry said.
