Union Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development Pemasani Chandra Sekhar on Friday said the Centre was implementing wide-ranging reforms to transform India Post into a world-class public service institution through technology, efficient leadership and a customer-centric approach.

Addressing a gathering after inaugurating the modernised Kothapet and Chandramouli Nagar Sub Post Offices in Guntur, he said India Post, with its presence in every village and household, would play a key role in realising the vision of Viksit Bharat.

Describing the reforms introduced over the past two years as unprecedented, Dr. Chandra Sekhar said they had surpassed the changes seen over the previous two to three decades, demonstrating that public sector institutions could deliver world-class services with the right leadership and technology.

He said strengthening the department’s financial position remained a priority, as higher revenue would support employee welfare, modernisation and expansion of services. Annual postal revenue growth had increased from about ₹200 crore earlier to more than ₹2,100 crore in a single year following the reforms, he added.

Highlighting the department’s digital transformation, the Minister said nearly 80% of postal transactions in Andhra Pradesh were now conducted digitally, with India Post moving towards fully cashless post offices. Under the IT 2.0 initiative, savings and insurance services would be brought completely online, while Gen-Z post offices, dedicated mobile applications for employees and specialised training programmes would further improve service delivery.

Dr. Chandra Sekhar said India Post had expanded its logistics partnerships with ONDC, GeM, Amazon, Flipkart, Meesho and Patanjali, and was planning to collaborate with DHL to strengthen international parcel services. Features such as 24 to 48-hour parcel delivery, end-to-end tracking, SMS alerts, OTP-based delivery and geo-tagging were being introduced in phases.

He urged postal employees to promote savings, insurance and financial literacy at the household level and leverage the department’s extensive network to market products made by farmers, women self-help groups and small entrepreneurs across the country and overseas. He reiterated that the Centre aimed to make India Post the country’s most trusted, modern and people-centric public service institution.
