South Korean filmmaker Yeon Sang-ho has had his upcoming survival-horror film teased at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival. The director is the man behind the acclaimed 2026 post-apocalyptic horror Train to Busan and its animated sequel Seoul Station, as well as Netflix’s Hellbound. He is set to unnerve audiences once more with Colony, a fresh, new zombie horror set in an enclosed location.

The teaser for Sang-ho’s tenth film, Korean title: Gun-che, was unveiled at the film festival and is cited under the 2026 Official Selection in the Out of Competition Midnight Screenings section. It sees the director team up with screenwriter Choi Gyu-seok, and stars Koo Kyo-hwanJi Chang-wookShin Hyun-beenKim Shin-rock, and Go Soo.

Colony takes place in a quarantined biotech facility during what was supposed to be a biotech conference, as a mutated virus spreads and infects those trapped inside. A group of survivors band together to fight against the infection as authorities trap them inside to prevent the spread.

The film has been made from a budget of ₩17 billion ($11million) and is set for a Cannes feature release on 15th May.

Sang-ho’s Train to Busan (Busanhaengshowcased another terrifying zombie outbreak which travels from the outside world to a train heading for Busan, where an unfeeling businessman finds himself in a fight against the growing infected to protect his estranged young daughter. The film stars Yoo, Jung Yu-mi, Ma Dong-seok, Kim Su-an, Choi Woo-shik, Ahn So-hee, and Kim Eui-sung, and grossed $98.5 million from a budget of $8.5 million.

It was followed by an animated sequel (Seoul-yeok) and a standalone prequel titled Peninsula (bando).

Colony hits U.S cinemas on August 28th. Studiocanal UK will release the film in the UK and Ireland, no word if it will be a cinema or streaming release or when it will be released.
