Coronation Street fans are worried that Carla Connor and Lisa Swain could be about to break up at some point after Lisa Swain told some "weird" lies ahead of their wedding

Coronation Street fans are worried that Carla Connor and Lisa Swain could be about to break up. The couple got together towards the end of 2024 , and they have become a a social media sensation known as Swarla, but their engagement was marred when Lisa's wife Becky came 'back from the dead'.

Following the dramatic events that unfolded over Christmas, which saw Becky lock Carla (Alison King) up in an airing cupboard before causing a crash in the soap's crossover with Emmerdale, Becky was arrested, put in prison and Lisa's divorce swiftly came through in the weeks that followed. With all that behind them, the Underworld boss and policewoman Lisa are set to finally tie the knot.

However, as the world's longest-running TV soap continued on Tuesday evening, both brides-to-be were getting ready for their individual hen parties before things seemed to go awry. As Carla stood with her hair in curlers ready for the hen do at the Rovers Return that evening, she quizzed Lisa (Vicky Myers) on where she would be having hers.

Clearly not wanting to go into specifics, Lisa said it would simply be "somewhere quiet in town," and Carla left it at that. But hours later, when Carla's hen do was in full swing, Sally Metcalfe popped round to the corner shop and caught Lisa buying a ready meal for one. She told Sally that no one had organised anything for her, and begged: "Look, please, whatever you do, don't tell Carla."

But Sally was having none of it, and marched Lisa round to the pub where Carla joked she would be "having a word" with Lisa's colleagues, and Sally gleefully announced she would leading a game of Mrs and Mrs. Fans immediately took to social media to speculate that something was afoot, and could not understand why Lisa had lied.

One fan wrote on X: "Lisa lying to Carla about her non existent bachelorette party is weird…" and another took to Reddit to share their concerns that the couple will be no more in the not-too-distant future.

The fan said: "I just thought it was really, really odd that Lisa lied to Carla to say that her police colleagues had organised a hen do and...they didn't. What was that all about? I know Swarla is the prize possession of Corrie atm but we all know that bosses these days can't keep a couple together.

"Maybe I'm reading too much into it but my gut feeling says...they'll go through with this wedding (to appease the fans who remind them that there has never been a successful lesbian wedding on the show), then whatever Lisa was hiding will come out and in the not-too-distant future, Peter Barlow will return and take Carla back. Wild theory I guess but I just got such weird vibes from Lisa today."

But fellow users reassured the fan that things would likely turn out okay, as one said: "I think she's probably embarrassed about having no real friends, wouldn't be surprised if that's down to Becky? She's also someone that's never really needed anyone or needed approval until she let Carla in so maybe we can explore that part of Lisa's life and how she never really had anyone she could trust

A third said: "I got the feeling that she was maybe a bit embarrassed and didn’t want to worry Carla and Betsy that she wasn’t having a hen do like they thought? But on this show now it could literally be anything so who knows," whilst a fourth wrote: "I think she's found not just a partner in Carla but also a best friend so she likely doesn't feel like she needs to expand on that. I don't think she feels there is anything missing from her life with lack of friends as she has all she needs in her life and seems very content.

"In terms of lore, there are so many reasons as to why she might not have friends, it could be a more recent situation, her job could be a factor, the crippling grief over Becky...There is still so much to learn about Lisa." Whatever happens between the much-loved couple, they will both be front and centre as part of a special week where their wedding serves as the backdrop for a murder.

Coronation Street boss Kate Brooks said of the big week: "It was a very complicated storylining process! I did lose a bit of sleep and my hair went a little bit greyer. Usually in a murder week you’ve got one victim, then the suspects – we had five potential suspects had to make sure all the stories aligned, made sense and they were all getting to the right place and coming together.

In the build-up it's gearing up and the momentum is really strong, it could be any of them. Stars aligned to get to this juicy week. The flipside is going forward, there’s so many consequences for each individual character.

Then we’ve also got the who did it, that big story as well going forward as well as unpacking what's going on with all those other characters. Very complex, but satisfying and enjoyable as well.

Coronation Street airs weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITV X.
