CRPF to conduct 'professional post-event assessment' of RAF action at student protests

CRPF to conduct 'professional post-event assessment'

NEW DELHI: Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Director General Gyanendra Pratap Singh on Monday said the force would conduct a "professional post-event assessment" of the action taken by Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel during CJP-led student protests, following the conclusion of the agitation.Singh said the review would be carried out in line with the CRPF's standard procedure after major operational deployments, now that the protest has ended and demonstrators have dispersed."Now, since agitation has been called off, and assembled people have dispersed, we would make a professional post event assessment, like we do after every major assignment, and then let you know the view of the force headquarters," Singh told ANI.

The statement comes amid protests by Opposition MPs, including Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, in the Parliament House complex on Monday over alleged "police brutality" against students during the NEET paper leak agitation. The Opposition has also demanded an apology from Union Home Minister Amit Shah.In a post on X, Rahul Gandhi claimed that reports indicated AK-47 rifles had been used against students protesting in Bihar and alleged that hundreds of demonstrators had been arrested and booked under multiple FIRs.

The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha demanded action against those responsible for the alleged attack on the students. The development comes after weeks of student protests led by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), which drew nationwide attention after activist Sonam Wangchuk joined the movement with a hunger strike at Jantar Mantar.Tensions escalated during the 'Sansad Chalo' march on July 20, when police allegedly used tear gas and lathi-charges to disperse protesters marching towards Parliament.Amid sustained protests, Dharmendra Pradhan resigned as Union Education Minister, following which Pralhad Joshi assumed charge of the ministry on Sunday.
