In short:

Richmond has suspended forward Mykelti Lefau for two matches over a drink driving charge.

Tigers CEO Shane Dunne said the club is "extremely disappointed" by the actions of the 27-year-old.

What's next?

Lefau, who has also been fined $2,500 and been forced to undergo counselling, will be able to return in round two.

Richmond forward Mykelti Lefau says he is "deeply embarrassed" after being suspended by the club for two matches over a drink driving charge.

Victoria Police confirmed Lefau was pulled over in East Malvern in the early hours of Saturday morning and allegedly blew .108 — more than double the legal blood alcohol limit.

The 27-year-old has also been fined $2,500 and will be required to undergo counselling as a part of his penalty. Richmond's ban means it will be without Lefau for a pre-season clash against Melbourne this Friday and for a round one clash against Carlton on March 12.

"I made a really poor choice, and I am deeply embarrassed by what has taken place," Lefau said in a statement on Monday.

"It is unacceptable by any standard and it won't happen again. I apologise to my club, my teammates and our fans."

Lefau is expected to address his teammates regarding the incident on Tuesday.

"We are extremely disappointed with Mykelti's actions, and he is fully aware that his poor judgement put both himself and the community at risk," Richmond CEO Shane Dunne said.

"Mykelti will now be suspended for two matches and undergo counselling to ensure he will learn from this mistake.

"We will continue to support Mykelti across this period to ensure his well-being.

"He understands he has let his teammates and the club down and will address them all tomorrow."

Lefau has endured a torrid run with injuries after having his debut season ended by a knee injury in 2024 before his return game last year ended with a calf injury.

He kicked three goals in a pre-season practice match against Essendon last week and is expected to figure heavily in Richmond's AFL side this season.
