England and India will face off in the second T20I of the five-match series at Old Trafford, Manchester, on July 4. After persistent rain forced the opening match in Chester-le-Street to be abandoned without a result, both sides head into the contest with the series still level at 0-0.

India produced an impressive batting performance before the washout in the first T20I. Captain Shreyas Iyer led from the front with a classy 68, while Abhishek Sharma continued his explosive form with a blistering 59 off just 24 deliveries. Shivam Dube provided the finishing flourish with an unbeaten 42, helping the visitors post a competitive 189/7. However, England never got the opportunity to begin their chase as heavy rain arrived immediately after the innings break.

England will be encouraged by the performance of their bowlers, with Saqib Mahmood claiming three wickets, while the possible return of Jofra Archer adds further strength to their pace attack. India, meanwhile, will hope their spin department can make an impact at Old Trafford as they aim to register their first victory of the series.

Old Trafford Pitch Report

Old Trafford has traditionally offered balanced conditions in T20 cricket, providing assistance to both batters and bowlers. The new ball is expected to move around under English conditions, allowing the seamers to exploit any early swing, especially if cloud cover persists during the afternoon.

As the match progresses, batting generally becomes easier, rewarding players who survive the initial spell. Spinners could also play an important role during the middle overs by varying their pace and using the larger boundaries effectively. Considering the possibility of movement with the new ball and the chasing advantage under lights, the captain winning the toss is likely to opt to bowl first.
