West Indies captain Shai Hope delivered a batting masterclass against India in the 4th T20I at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad on Wednesday, October 14. The right-handed batter led from the front with a sensational century as the visitors posted a daunting total on the board.

After winning the toss and opting to bowl first, India struggled to contain the West Indies batters on a flat surface. Hope’s explosive knock, along with valuable contributions from Shimron Hetmyer and Sherfane Rutherford, put the visitors in a commanding position and left fans talking about the skipper’s remarkable innings.

Shai Hope leads West Indies’ batting charge with sensational century

Hope anchored the West Indies innings with an unbeaten 102 off just 50 deliveries, striking at 204.00. His innings featured four boundaries and nine sixes as he combined composure with aggressive strokeplay to put the Indian bowlers under constant pressure. The West Indies skipper received strong support from his teammates. Hetmyer smashed 33 off 12 balls, while Rutherford remained unbeaten on 49 off 26 deliveries.

Rovman Powell also contributed 24 runs as the visitors finished with an imposing 247/3 in their 20 overs. West Indies made a flying start, scoring 79/1 in the powerplay. India’s bowlers struggled to find a way to slow the scoring, with Arshdeep Singh and Mayank Yadav conceding 52 runs each in their four overs. Prince Yadav was India’s most economical frontline bowler, finishing with figures of 1/36.

India face a daunting chase after Hope’s masterclass

India need 248 runs to win the fourth T20I after the West Indies batting unit took full advantage of the conditions. With the series standing at 2-1 in India’s favour before the match, the visitors have a chance to level the five-match series at 2-2.

The Indian top order, featuring Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan, faces a challenging task in the chase. Hope’s century has given West Indies significant momentum, while India will need an aggressive start to keep themselves in contention.
