After years of planning and many delays, the Gordie Howe International Bridge officially opened to traffic Monday. Global News captured some of the first travellers to cross from Windsor, Ont., into Detroit, Mich., on the 100 per cent Canadian paid-for bridge. The six-lane cross-border bridge opens into toll lanes designated for passenger vehicles, transport trucks, and buses. The toll to cross the bridge is eight dollars per passenger vehicle, and starting next week, it will open to pedestrians and bike traffic, who will be able to cross at no cost.
