Three former AIADMK MLAs who crossed over to the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), against whom disqualification proceedings were initiated under the provisions of the anti-defection law, met Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Speaker J.C.D. Prabhakar at the Secretariat in Chennai and gave their explanations on Thursday (July 9, 2026).

S. Jayakumar (Perundurai), P. Sathyabama (Dharapuram), and Maragatham Kumaravel (Maduranthagam) appeared before the Speaker and gave their explanations on notices issued to them earlier.

A few days ago, Esakki Subaya (Ambasamudram) had given his explanation to the Speaker.

These four MLAs were among the 25 rebel MLAs who voted contrary to the direction issued by the party whip during the vote of confidence for the Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay-led government in the Assembly on May 13.

Barring these four MLAs, the proceedings against the remaining 21 MLAs who voted contrary to the party whip were dropped by the Speaker after AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami condoned their action.

After the proceedings against them were dropped, two MLAs, C. Vijayabaskar (Viralimalai) and M.R. Vijayabhaskar (Karur), resigned from the Assembly and joined the TVK.
