In an aggressive push to boost national productivity, the Ministry of Science, Innovation, Technology, and Telecommunications (MICITT) has launched a completely free 5G training program tailored specifically for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

The course, developed alongside the Costa Rican Promotora of Innovation and Research (PCII), aims to bridge the digital divide. While 5G technology is actively restructuring the modern business environment, it remains financially or technically out of reach for many smaller operations. This initiative lowers that barrier, welcoming business owners and teams even if they have zero prior technical background.

A Dual-Phase Learning Roadmap

The comprehensive program features nearly 200 hours of training, strategically split into two progressive paths designed to take businesses from theory to hands-on testing:

• Phase 1 — From Connectivity to Competitiveness (March to May): This introductory segment teaches teams the core capabilities of 5G, mapping out how the network infrastructure can optimize day-to-day workflows, link smart internal devices, and elevate the consumer experience. Participants completing this phase receive an official certification accredited by MICITT and the PCII.
• Phase 2 — Advanced Practical Phase (Launching June 2026): Moving beyond theoretical knowledge, the second track gives businesses access to real-world sandbox testing grounds. Here, teams can actively configure local 5G network environments, integrate Internet of Things (IoT) hardware, track live performance analytics, and directly design pilot projects built for their unique business models.

Driving Local Innovation and Digital Inclusion

The program is tailor-made for MSME employees, executives, strategic decision-makers, and scaling startup entrepreneurs. Because spots are strictly limited despite the zero-cost price tag, organizing teams are encouraging early registration.

This cross-sector project is backed by the European Union and implemented by FIAP alongside MICITT and the PCII. By combining public oversight, academic resources, and private sector agility, Costa Rica aims to establish a highly competitive, digitally integrated foundation for small businesses navigating a changing economy.
