Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayGwyneth Paltrow has made an outstanding name for herself in film, becoming a recognisable star with some strong titles in the bank. However surprisingly, her time in television is less notable – this is set to change as Paltrow takes on her first lead in the upcoming drama series The Apology Having already been signed on for two seasons, this show is an opportunity for Paltrow to demonstrate a new command of a role, having to tie this upcoming series together.
Gwyneth Paltrow will take on the role of Evelyn Amspoker, whose sun was murdered 18 years prior in a case that gained intense public attention when left unsolved. Hope seems to emerge when a stranger appears and confesses, but Evelyn and her husband learn the killer is eligible for a reduced sentence. The logline continues, “Faced with an unbearable legal truth, Evelyn and Caleb decide to take justice into their own hands”.
Attached to direct is Oscar-winner Thomas Vinterberg known predominantly for his work on Another Round and The Hunt, and the show is created and written by Joe Murtaugh known for The Woman in the Wall. The film’s studio is A24 and this ambitious gamble comes after a netflix personnel change.
Writing up The Apology for two seasons is a bold move for a new creative title, putting significant faith in both the cast and creatives. It is said this is a result of a 6% cut of Netflix employees – amongst this we saw Peter Rice replace Bela Bejaria as Chief content officer, and the head of film left this past Monday morning. TV Boss Jinne Howe has stayed in his domain overseeing US and Canada scripted series.
Gwyneth Paltrow has appeared in famous franchises such as Iron Man, The Avengers and Marty Supreme. Her academy award winning performance was in Shakespeare in Love for best actress, and she also gave loved performances in The Talented Mr. Ripley and The Royal Tenenbaums.
Paltrow may be entering a new era of her acting career, taking on her first leading role in a potentially intense plot with creative dynamics that could bring out entirely new character choices.
