With heavy rain continuing in parts of Kerala, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) upgraded the rain alert for the State on Friday (August 7, 2026). According to the latest weather bulletin issued by the IMD, a red alert warning of extreme rainfall has been sounded for Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts for the day, while an orange alert has been issued for Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, and Idukki districts, where very heavy rainfall is likely during the next 24 hours.

The remaining districts gave been put on a yellow alert where isolated heavy rainfall is likely.

The upper cyclonic circulations persisting over the southeast Bay of Bengal, northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Odisha-Gangetic West Bengal coasts have been triggering the heavy spell of rains in the State.

Meanwhile, Kumarakom in Kottayam recorded very heavy rain of 14 cm during the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 a.m. on Friday, followed by Vaikkom with 13 cm, and Kottayam and Cherthala in Alappuzha with 9 cm each.
