In a recent Instagram post, Henry Cavill (Superman) has confirmed that Mike Flanagan (Carrie) will be joining the upcoming Warhammer adaptation as EP, showrunner, writer and director.

This has been rumoured since Games Workshop leaked the news in a recent financial report, in which they also revealed that the production company United Artists had been brought on board. Games Workshop struck a licensing deal with Amazon in 2024. The show, known as Warhammer 40,000is set in the far future, where humanity stands on the brink of what might be its brightest future or its darkest age. The threats to humankind’s empire are many: traitors driven by the fires of ambition, alien empires sworn to reclaim the stars, and the corruption of reality by malevolent gods. Vertigo executive produces the show with Cavill and GW’s Andy Smillie and Max Bottrill alongside Amazon MGM.

“We have already been working with [Flanagan] to craft the creative, and we’re making some considerable advances in story,” Cavill wrote on Instagram. “Importantly, some of you have been asking if I will still be starring in the lead role in the live-action TV series—rest assured, I most certainly will! Who that character is, however, shall remain a secret for now!” In the post, Cavill also went on to reveal the news that they are also working on a Warhammer 40,000 animated series, which Cavill will exec produce. The animated series, from Amazon MGM Studios, Blur Studios and Games Workshop, will be a spinoff of Secret LevelPrime Video’s adult animated anthology series, which aired an episode dedicated to the show in its first season. Few details are known at this point, but Deadline believes it will revolve around The Deathwatch, an elite group of Space Marines that specialise in hunting down alien threats.
