The State government has issued orders restructuring the membership framework and organisational structure of police associations within the Home department. The order, which effectively reduces the number of recognised police associations from three to two, has led to the dissolution of the Kerala Police Officers Association (KPOA).

The reform is based on a formal proposal submitted by the State Police Chief, which cited operational and practical difficulties in the existing membership hierarchy. Under the newly issued directives, the framework will now be restructured into two main entities. The Kerala Police Association (KPA) has been reorganised to represent personnel holding the ranks of Civil Police Officer (CPO), Senior Civil Police Officer (SCPO), Grade Assistant Sub-Inspector (Grade ASI), Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) and Grade Sub-Inspector (Grade SI).

Meanwhile, the Kerala Police Senior Officers Association (KPSOA) has been reorganised to represent officers ranging from the rank of Sub-Inspector (SI) up to Superintendent of Police (Non-IPS). With the dissolution of the KPOA, its legal rights, liabilities, office premises, accounts and assets will be divided between the two remaining organisations. Under the arrangement, 60% of KPOA’s bank accounts, assets, records and liabilities will be transferred to the KPA, and the remaining will be transferred to the KPSOA.

Besides, the existing State committee office of the KPOA will henceforth serve as the official State committee headquarters for the KPSOA.  In order to facilitate a smooth operational transition, the State Police Chief will constitute State-level ad-hoc committees, which will establish district-level ad-hoc committees. All unit, district and State-level elections for both the KPA and KPSOA will be completed by September 30.
