The Houthi rebels have stated that they intend to continue military strikes 'in the coming days'. The Yemen-based group entered the Iran war earlier, firing missiles on Israeli military targets.
The assault this morning was the group's first intervention in the US-Israeli war with Iran. A barrage of ballistic missiles was sent "targeting sensitive Israeli military sites".
In a statement on Telegram tonight (Saturday), the rebel group said the action it was taking was to support "the resistance fronts in Palestine, the land of sacrifice and redemption; Iraq, the land of glory and defiance; Lebanon, the land of dignity and steadfastness; and Iran, the land of pride, honour, and defiance."
It went on: "The Yemeni Armed Forces affirm that, in fulfilling their religious, moral, and humanitarian duties towards the free people of the nation on the fronts of jihad and resistance, and in response to the enemy's crimes against the people and the countries of the nation, they will continue, with Allah's help and reliance upon Allah, to carry out their military operations in the coming days until the criminal enemy ceases its attacks and aggression. "
Last night, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said the group was ready to join the conflict, adding that the group would enter the war if any new alliances join Washington and Israel against Iran and its allies, or if the Red Sea is used for "hostile operations" against Iran.
In 2025 Donald Trump launched a bombing campaign, with help from the UK, to prevent Houthi attacks on shipping in the Red Sea. The assaults killed a number of top Houthi officials, but concluded when a ceasefire was negotiated.

They form part of the so-called Iranian-led "axis of resistance" against Israel, the US and the wider West - alongside with armed groups such as Hamas and Lebanon's Hezbollah movement.
There are concerns that the Houthis may target shipping in the Bab al-Mandab strait. The key shipping route lies between Yemen and the Horn of Africa, at the south end of the Red Sea.
