Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien, representing Mamata Banerjee, said that the INDIA bloc is united.

“We are all in this together,” he asserted, inviting people - from students and civil society members to homemakers - to join the November 1 rally.

Samajwadi Party’s Dharmendra Yadav, speaking after Rahul Gandhi, conveyed the message in Hindi. He said the postponed ‘public impeachment’ will take place around 3 p.m. on October 31.

The Opposition parties are “united” and referred to the BJP’s loss in MLC seats in Uttar Pradesh.

Inviting people from all walks of life to join the INDIA bloc’s November 1 rally, Rahul Gandhi stated that Home Minister Amit Shah is “trying his best” to stop people from other States - U.P., Haryana, Rajasthan, Telangana, Punjab - who want to join the rally in Delhi.

“Now you watch what happens at Ramlila ground,” he asserted. “There is huge anger and emotional pain because large numbers are being disenfranchised,” he added.

The INDIA bloc, led by the Congress, plans to hold a rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on Sunday (November 1, 2026) to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. 

The INDIA bloc’s proposed “public impeachment” of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has been postponed to October 31 due to rain, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said.

Addressing a press conference in Delhi, he added that the decision was taken by consensus considering that senior leaders will be uncomfortable in the current weather condition.

Sources said the postponement was due to weather conditions, as the lawns got muddy due to rains in New Delhi

Security preparations are under way for the Opposition’s November 1 ‘Chalo Dilli’ event at Ramlila Maidan. Delhi Police will deploy over 3,000 personnel and instal more than 200 CCTV cameras, including AI-enabled surveillance systems, ahead of the protest, said an officer. The venue, which will host its first major demonstration since the denotification of Jantar Mantar as a protest site on October 11, has been divided into 14 zones to manage protesters.

In a letter to Sonia Gandhi, the traders’ body said the proposed rally, which is expected to draw 10 lakh people, could affect business worth ₹10,000-12,000 crore in wholesale and retail markets in central and old Delhi during the peak festive season

The Congress president’s official residence was decided as the venue after the Opposition bloc’s attempts to organise the event at the Ashok Hotel and Ramlila Maidan allegedly ran into hurdles over permissions. 

The event has now been moved to October 31.
