Sirik death toll rises to four including child, says Iran Red Crescent

The Iranian Red Crescent said that four people including a child were killed and over 50 people were wounded by a US attack while attending a wedding in the south.

“Following a US missile attack, shrapnel hit a residential home in the city of Kuhestak, in Sirik county of Hormozgan province, where a wedding celebration was taking place,” the Red Crescent said in a post on X.

“More than 50 people were injured and four people, including a young child, were martyred.”

The US has yet to comment on the attack.

IRGC says ‘regretful response’ to US attacks has begun

A short while ago, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it had begun a “regretful response to the aggressors” amid the fresh US attacks on southern Iran, state broadcaster IRIB reported.

In a statement, the IRGC said that “in blind and desperate attacks”, the US had bombed several locations, including civilian areas. It went on:

Attacks that tightened the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and strengthened the determination of the fighters to suppress the foreign forces interfering in the strait of Hormuz.

The brave warriors of the IRGC have begun a regretful response to the aggressors, and in the first action, using the new aerospace defence system, they shot down the 50th advanced MQ9 drone of the invading American army.

At least two people killed at wedding in US attack on Sirik, Iranian state tv reports

At least two people were killed and several others wounded at a wedding in the coastal city of Bandar Kuhestak in Iran’s southern Sirik county during the US attacks, Ahmad Nafisi, deputy governor of Hormozgan province, told Iranian state television in a phone call.

“A residential home was attacked while people were holding a wedding ceremony,” Nafisi said, adding that “two people were reported martyred and a number of others wounded”.

The situation at Jiroft airport in Iran’s Kerman province is “under control”, a deputy governor said in comments carried by Iran’s Fars News Agency, after a US projectile landed outside the airport’s runway.

There were no casualties or damage to airport structure, he said.

Iran may target 'Americans throughout the world', US says in new travel alert

Renewed tensions between Iran and US forces have prompted heightened travel alerts for the Middle East.

In a post on X, the US state department said:

“Due to tensions in the Middle East, the security environment remains complex with the potential for unforeseen escalation. Americans currently in the Middle East should exercise heightened vigilance and be aware of potential flight cancellations, airspace closures, and travel disruptions.”

The advise, covering all countries in the region, is similar to that given during previous points of heightened conflict with Iran. It also warns Iran and its supporters may target US interests “and Americans throughout the world, including US businesses and other institutions”.

We’re getting some more details from Iranian media on the US strikes on Jiroft airport in southern Iran.

Fars news agency, quoting the governor of Kerman province, said the attack caused “no casualties and did not damage the runway or the airport buildings.”

Iranian airport struck in fresh wave of US attacks

American missiles struck an airport in southern Iran on Tuesday, Iranian state television is reporting.

Jiroft airport, in the province of Kerman, is the latest target in a fresh wave of US airstrikes.

Iranian TV earlier reported several strikes along the coast of the strait of Hormuz and on Iranian islands in the Gulf.

In that call with Fox News, Donald Trump reportedly said Iran would be “totally wiped out” if it launches retaliatory strikes against the US.

Trump claimed US forces had targeted and destroyed Iranian radar assets, including systems Tehran was trying to rebuild, Fox correspondent Trey Yingst reported.

“This is a very big hit today. If it goes a third time, they’re going to be totally wiped out as a country,” Yingst quoted the president saying.

Trump says US gave Iran many chances and dismisses value of any deal

Donald Trump has told ⁠Fox News that he had given ⁠Iran a ​lot ‌of chances ‌and dismissed ‌the value of any deal with Tehran.

“I think ‌an agreement with them isn’t ​worth the paper it’s written on. ⁠We gave ​them a ​lot ​of chances,” ​Fox ‌News ​quoted ​the US president as saying.

New explosions have been heard in the Iranian port city Bandar Abbas and Qeshm Island, Iran’s IRIB broadcaster is reporting, along with explosions also heard on Lavan Island, home to one of Iran’s oil export terminals in the Gulf.

US 'will regret its new attacks', says IRGC

And now we have some reaction from Iran, with IRGC spokesperson Sardar Mohebi saying the US “will regret its new attacks”.

In a post on X, Mohebi said:

Severe punishment awaits the aggressors, and America will regret its new attacks.

Trump warns of 'much harder' action if Iran retaliates to 'very justified' US attacks

Donald Trump has just posted about the strikes on his Truth Social platform.

He said they were “in retaliation” for Iran’s “failed attempt” to lay mines in the strait of Hormuz and for Iran’s (retaliatory) attacks on the US military base in Jordan (which were intercepted).

The US president added that if Iran retaliates against the US’s latest strikes, “they will be hit again at a much harder and higher level, but it will not be the biggest attack of them all, that is waiting in the wings and, when it is over, there will be very little left of the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

That very ominous last part is starkly reminiscent of threats Trump has made in the past that could amount to war crimes if carried out, including threatening numerous times to destroy critical civilian infrastructure like power plants and bridges, threatening to bomb Iran “back to the Stone Ages”, and his now-infamous April threat that “a whole civilization will die tonight” if a deal wasn’t reached.

The United States is, as we speak, striking Iranian Targets near the Strait of Hormuz. The strikes are large and powerful, and in retaliation for the Iranians’ failed attempt at adding sea mines to the Strait, which currently has no mines (They have been completely removed or detonated!), and the Iranians shooting eight missiles, all successfully knocked down, at our Military Base in Jordan. If the failed Nation of Iran retaliates for this very justified attack, they will be hit again at a much harder and higher level, but it will not be the biggest attack of them all, that is waiting in the wings and, when it is over, there will be very little left of the Islamic Republic of Iran!

Iran’s state broadcaster said there had been reports of explosions on Qeshm Island, on the northern side of the strait of Hormuz.

The state-linked news agency Nour ‌News said there had been reports of explosions in the port city of Bandar Abbas and in Chabahar, a port on the southern coast.

Iran’s Fars news agency also reported several explosions in the south-eastern city of Konarak.

The six-month-old conflict had recently shifted into an economic standoff fought through sanctions, blockades and economic pressure before the flare-ups over the weekend.

On Monday, Donald Trump asserted that the US and Israeli bombardment has left Iran “a failed nation”, with much of its political leadership killed, its economy staggered by surging inflation and its military devastated.

Still, Trump said that more strikes might be necessary, telling reporters:

That doesn’t mean we won’t smack them. We’ll see what happens.

His comments came after the White House last week signalled that Trump was shelving military measures in favour of a campaign to destroy the Iranian economy by enforcing sanctions.

The Iranian president, Masoud Pezeshkian, told Pakistan’s prime minister, Shehbaz Sharif, in a bilateral meeting on the margins of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Kyrgyzstan on Monday that continuing the war was not in Iran’s interest, adding he was still ready to implement the memorandum of understanding with the US that Pakistan had mediated in June.

The Iranian currency was under renewed pressure on Monday and the inflationary impact of its rapid depreciation is causing growing concern to MPs.

These latest strikes come after the two sides exchanged fire for the first time in a month over the weekend.

The US military said it had struck rocket launchers on Larak Island in the strait of Hormuz on Sunday, in its first strikes on Iran since July, after it detected the Iranians were planning to deploy fresh mines in the critical waterway.

Tehran responded by launching missiles at US sites in Jordan, which were intercepted, and the United Arab Emirates, which said it had stopped an Iranian drone over its territorial waters.

US president Donald Trump threatened further action on Monday, telling Fox News: “We’re going to hit them hard. There will be a response.”

These strikes, 24 hours after Trump’s comments, are that response.

A reminder that the US is trying to prise open Tehran’s grip on shipping going through the strait of Hormuz, which before the war accounted for a fifth of the world’s seaborne energy supply. Washington claimed that Iranian control over the waterway had been loosened by repeated US attacks on Iranian missile launchers and radars.

Last week Trump claimed the US navy had cleared the strait of mines for the first time since the conflict started on 28 February, a claim the Iranians rejected as lies.

Iranian state TV claimed the military exchanges escalated on Sunday after a tanker caught fire when hitting two Iranian naval mines while attempting to pass through the southern side of the strait close to Oman. Officials later said Iran had targeted three ships trying to navigate the southern route that Tehran says is unauthorised.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) warned that other ships violating ⁠its rules would face ​the ​same fate and ​said compliance with ​its regulations ‌for ​passage ​through the strait was mandatory.

US military attacks sites in Iran

The US military has said it is striking targets in Iran over attempted attacks on shipping as hostilities flare after a month.

US Central Command said in an update on X:

Today at 12 p.m. ET, U.S. forces began striking Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targets in Iran. The strikes follow recent attempted attacks by the IRGC against commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and against American service members deployed to the region.
