The US has seized an Iranian-flagged ship after "blowing a hole" in the vessel, Donald Trump has said.

The US President said Marines intercepted and took "full custody" of the Touska, an Iranian-flagged cargo ship, in the Gulf of Oman as it tried to get around the US naval blockade. "The Iranian crew refused to listen, so our Navy ship stopped them right in their tracks by blowing a hole in the engine room," Trump wrote on Truth Social this evening.

Iran views the US blockade of its ports - which began last Monday - as a violation of the two-week ceasefire, which is due to expire on Wednesday. Earlier, Iranian state media reported that Tehran has rejected a second round of peace talks with the US, after Trump said a US delegation would head to Islamabad for talks on Monday night and vowed to destroy every power plant and bridge in Iran if Tehran does not agree to a deal.

US accused of 'bad intentions and lack of seriousness '

Iran’s state broadcaster said foreign minister Abbas Araghchi told his Pakistani counterpart on a phone call that recent US actions, rhetoric and contradictions were signs of “bad intentions and lack of seriousness in diplomacy”.

Pakistan did not confirm a second round of talks, but authorities began tightening security in Islamabad. A regional official involved in the efforts said mediators were finalising preparations and US advance security teams were on the ground.

Trump threatens to "knock out" Iran's power plants

As negotiations and ceasefire appear fragile, Trump has dialled up threats, warning he will "knock out" Iran's power plants and bridges.

However, the former Human Rights Watch chief has said such would constitute a war crime as "humanitarian law prohibits targeting civilian objects like power plants or bridges".

US military gives further details on seizure of Iranian-flagged cargo ship

The US military said the Touska, an Iranian-flagged cargo ship, was intercepted by the USS Spruance, a guided-missile destroyer, as it tried to sail towards the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas.

US forces issued "multiple warnings" to the vessel over a six-hour period, according to Central Command (CENTCOM)

When the ship failed to comply, the Spruance ordered the crew to evacuate the engine room before firing several rounds into the area, CENTCOM said. Marines from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit then boarded the vessel.

US forces have directed 25 commercial vessels to turn around or return to Iranian ports since the blockade began last Monday, CENTCOM added.

Recap of the latest major developments on day 51

If you're joining us now, here's a recap of the latest major developments on day 51 of the US-Israeli war with Iran:

  • President Donald Trump said US negotiators will be in Pakistan on Monday for a second round of peace talks with Iran. He also threatened to destroy civilian infrastructure in Iran if Tehran does not agree to a deal with Washington.
  • Iran did not immediately confirm whether it would attend the talks. Tehran later rejected the second round of talks, Iranian state news agency IRNA reported.
  • Tehran's absence from the talks is due to "Washington's excessive demands, unrealistic expectations, constant shifts in stance, repeated contradictions, and the ongoing naval blockade", IRNA said.
  • The Strait of Hormuz has been closed to shipping after Iran reversed a brief reopening yesterday. Tehran warned the key shipping route will remain closed until the US blockade on Iranian ports - which began last Monday - is lifted.
  • The fragile ceasefire between the US and Iran is due to expire on Wednesday.
  • The 10-day ceasefire in Israel and Lebanon appears to be holding.

French ship faced gunfire in Strait of Hormuz, shipping company says

French shipping company CMA CGM has said that one of its vessels faced gunfire.

Donald Trump said earlier today that Iran had fired on French and British ships in the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday. "Iran decided to fire bullets yesterday in the Strait of Hormuz — A Total Violation of our Ceasefire Agreement! Many of them were aimed at a French Ship, and a Freighter from the United Kingdom," he wrote in a Truth Social post.

However, the UK Ministry of Defence and UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) centre soon confirmed that they had received no reports of such an attack on UK-linked vessels.

It has now been confirmed by the International Maritime Organisation that the French-flagged container ship CMA CGM Everglade was damaged north of Kumzar, Oman. No injuries or pollution were reported.

Iran's president accuses the US of bullying during talks and ceasefire

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has accused the US of bullying and acting unreasonably during negotiations and the ceasefire.

Pezeshkian made the remarks during a phone call with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, according to Iran's judiciary-run Mizan News Agency.

The report said Iran's president warned that US actions and threats have led to increased suspicion among Iranian officials about Washington's seriousness and raised concerns that it will "betray diplomacy".
