Is The Jordan Grind Worth The Hype?

There is a lot of cool gear in the golf equipment world that doesn’t always fit neatly into Most Wanted Tests or Buyer’s Guides. You still want to know how it performs. In our We Tried It series, we put gear to the test and let you know if it works as advertised.

What We Tried

Jordan’s newest golf shoe: The Jordan Grind.

Who Tried It

Tyler. Soft Goods Testing Manager and sports card enthusiast. Jordan golf shoes have been hit or miss for me in the past. The Jordan Grind lands squarely in my “hit” category.

I’ve been wearing Jordan basketball shoes since I was in 5th grade, and Jordan Golf shoes for roughly two years- I know my stuff.

Upsides

  1. The Air Zoom unit utilized at the front of the foot is a nice touch.
The front of the foot features an Air Zoom unit that didn’t do too much for cushioning but did help with bounce, energy return and the overall responsiveness of the shoe. If you walk a lot, you’ll be happy to know your feet will get some extra help.
  2. The rubber outsole is a Beefy 5-layer Burrito (this is a good thing).
The outsole is built to offer additional support whether you’re walking and riding and it was noticeable during the rounds I had the Jordan Grind on.
  3. The lace supports help you stay locked in.
I haven’t worn too many golf shoes that have additional lace support but if your golf shoes get looser during the round or don’t stay tight to start with, you’ll appreciate the additional tech.
  4. The style is unmatched.
I don’t have the best memory in the world but it’s good enough to knows that the Jordan Grind is one of the more stylish options Jordan Golf has released in the last few years. If you’re a sneakerhead, the Jordan Grind should be considered.
  5. The Jordan Grind is much less stiff than previous Jordan Golf shoes.
Most recently, I tested the Air Jordan 9 G along with the Air Jordan 14 G and let me tell ya: “stiff” is an understatement. The Jordan Grind is a refreshing reset offering a much more pliable build.

Downsides

There really weren’t many downsides per se that I ran into when testing the Jordan Grind golf shoes but there were two things that made the experience slightly less enjoyable.

  1. The Jordan Grind is a bulky golf shoe.
If bulky golf shoes aren’t your thing, I’m warning you in advance. These aren’t comparable to Reebok’s “The Question” golf shoe but they are slightly bulkier than the Jordan 1 G.
  2. Traction is above average but not S-Tier.
If you’re searching for elite traction, choose a spiked option from Jordan Golf. I was impressed by the rubberized pattern and the overall assembly but it still doesn’t quite keep up with the other spiked options on the market. I’m not sure I trust them to hold up well in super wet conditions.

Final Thoughts

All in all, the Jordan Grind is a solid golf shoe and one of Jordan Golf’s better available offerings.

I think one of the brand’s merits is its ability to appeal to multiple age groups. There are certain Jordan Golf shoes that speak louder to different ages but the Jordan Grind is a timeless golf shoe.

Don’t get me wrong. This isn’t a market-leading golf shoe but for $165, don’t overthink it. You’ll be pleased with the feel of the Jordan Grind.
