Jeff Bezos made what remains the world's largest individual philanthropic commitment to climate change and nature in 2020 by pledging $10 billion through the Bezos Earth Fund, with the money set to be distributed by 2030.

Five years later, as the fund enters its next phase, Lauren Sánchez Bezos is taking a leading role in directing those investments. The Bezos Earth Fund vice chair recently announced a $100 million investment to transform underused spaces in eight US cities into parks, community gathering places and green hubs. "It’s time to turn more cities from gray to green," Lauren Sánchez Bezos wrote on Instagram announcing the investment. She further added:“Today, the @bezosearthfund is announcing a $100 million investment in eight U.S. cities to transform underused spaces into parks, gathering places, and green community hubs where people can connect and thrive.”“Because investing in nature is also an investment in people.”

Lauren Sánchez Bezos, who serves as vice chair of the Bezos Earth Fund, has increasingly become the public face of its philanthropic efforts.

In recent months, she announced $37.5 million in grants to support marine protection across 12 Pacific Island nations and territories as part of a $100 million ocean conservation initiative. She also unveiled $30 million in the second phase of the fund's AI Grand Challenge for Climate and Nature, a program committing up to $100 million to AI-driven environmental solutions.Beyond climate projects, Sánchez Bezos announced a $102.5 million commitment through the Bezos Day 1 Families Fund to support organisations helping families experiencing homelessness across the United States.
