The Kerala government has constituted a three-member panel to study and submit a report on the removal of the excavation debris piled up in front of the Kalladi tunnel site in Wayanad district.

The panel will have as its members Santhosh G. Thampi, Professor, National Institute of Technology Kozhikode; Jude Emmanuel, Environmental Scientist, Directorate of Environment and Climate Change; and a representative of the National Centre for Earth Science Studies (NCESS), Thiruvananthapuram.

The decision was taken at a meeting attended by Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan, Public Works Minister P.K. Basheer and Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala on Friday.

The committee will visit the site and guide the District Disaster Management Authority in the safe removal of the debris to disposal sites identified by the Public Works department in the case of the twin-tunnel project, and the Project Implementation Unit in the case of the Wayanad Township Project. The committee will also draw up up a short action plan for the removal of the debris.
