In 2021, the Left Democratic Front (LDF), led by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) – CPI(M), won 99 of the 140 Assembly seats in the state to come back to power for a second consecutive term. Pinarayi Vijayan became the CM.

The main opposition – the United Democratic Front (UDF), led by the Congress – won 41 of the seats. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) won no seats at all.

As BJP failed to secure any seat in last Assembly polls in the state, this year it’s geared up with new strategies and party’s central election committee held a meeting on Thursday to discuss party’s candidates.

According to PTI, the meeting, held at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence here, was attended by Home Minister Amit Shah, Union minister JP Nadda and other members of the BJP’s poll body.
