The Kiwis have lost the captain's challenge — and it a shocking challenge.

Winger Jamayne Isaako clearly dropped a high kick forward, but for some reason the Kiwis challenged.

The Kiwis finally score against the 12-man Kangaroos, and it is Kalyn Ponga.

The Kiwis turned down a possible penalty goal attempt, going for the try with Kotoni Staggs one minute away from coming back on.

Once again, the Kiwis attack where Staggs would be standing, and Ponga scores.

The Kiwis have done nothing but run to wear Kotoni Staggs, who is still in the sin bin, should be defending.

They are making all sorts of metres, but they are yet to convert these line breaks into tries.

Meanwhile, Australia has scored two tries, one for each winger, both 90-metre intercepts.

Kotoni Staggs has been sent to the sin bin.

He held back New Zealand's Kodi Nikorima who was chasing a kick to score.

Ref Adam Gee blows a penalty, and sends Staggs to the bin.

Kalyn Ponga slices through the Australian defence.

He had Reece Walsh to beat.

Ponga steps and goes for the left corner.

Walsh comes flying across and tackles his opposing fullback into touch.

Australia centre Kotoni Staggs has come so close to scoring.

A brilliant kick from Cam Munster on the outside of his boot was bouncing in the in-goal area.

Kotoni Staggs won the four-player race for the ball, but the ball just slipped from his grasp.

Jack Bostock has dragged Australia back into the match all by himself.

New Zealand was on the attack, but halfback Jahrome Hughes threw a looping pass to the wing.

Bostock took the intercept and ran 90 metres to score in the left corner.

The Kangaroos are enjoying their first genuine attacking chance.

It came from a one-on-one strip by Jack Bostock.

The Kangaroos got close to the goal line and earned a penalty.

The Kangaroos then put in a grubber to the in-goal, forcing a goal-line dropout, but the video ref has found an Australian knock-on in the lead-up.

That means the Kiwis get a scrum.
