Could the Cats still get in on the Blakey business?
What’s a fair trade for Sam de koning and gryan miers and could they be apart of a Sydney nick Blakey deal if they can’t agree with North Melbourne?
- Jackson
I think the ship has sailed in terms of Blakey joining the Cats, especially once the Cats pulled the trigger on Marshall.
Geelong will feel the additions of Toby Greene, Marshall and Jordan Ridley will suffice for this year.
I'd say both Sam De Koning and Gryan Miers should be worth a first-round pick, but perhaps not an elite first-round pick.
De Koning's star seemed to be on the rise a few years ago when the Cats won the flag, but he's plateaued a little bit since.
Miers has been excellent for the Cats, but had a down year this year and he's got this mystery ACL injury that no one quite knows about.
If you're a team trading for him, you'd want to be sure that you do a thorough medical to have a look under the hood there.

I am here to join in on the trade bonanza
Hello everyone!
Big thanks to Dean for opening things up again this morning, and it is nice to see we've had an early morning move.
Getting settled in now. Let's hope we've got a few more deals coming this afternoon eh?

All eyes on the Chad in 2027
Considering the Blakey situation it is no wonder wce and Freo are not trying to shake the warner tree until he is a RFA. We are all assuming the Blakey deal will get done but it really isn't set in stone and regardless of investigation swans hold the aces.
- matt
(Getty Images)I think if Chad Warner had indicated he was interested in leaving Sydney this year, both West Coast and Fremantle (but especially the Eagles given their needs, cap space and trade assets) would have gone as hard as they could for him. But unlike Blakey, Warner wants to at least see out the last year of his contract at Sydney.
This time next year though, all bets are off. Freo and West Coast will spend the entirety of 2027 trying to convince Warner to come home and to pick them under free agency. The investigation will surely be done by then, all the details likely laid bare, and it will be a far more straightforward situation for all involved then.

Nick Blakey and the pending investigation
Why have North and other clubs not waited until Victoria Police have completed their investigation of the Swans players before offering Blakey an offer?
- Rani
The simple answer is that the investigation will not be completed by the end of this year's trade period. Blakey wants to leave the Swans, and North Melbourne (and a few other interested parties) have had to take a calculated risk given all of his current circumstances.
I think North are hoping said circumstances might help them get a bit of a discount on Blakey. The Swans do not agree.

Aidan Schubert and Sam Butler to Gold Coast trade agreed
(Getty Images)The deal is done, two young Hawks are about to become Suns. Here's how it shakes out:
Here we go:
- Hawthorn gives, Gold Coast gets: Aidan Schubert, Sam Butler, 2028 first-rounder, 2027 third-rounder (GC)
- Gold Coast gives, Hawthorn gets: 2028 first-rounder, 2028 second-rounder, 2027 second-rounder
Make sense? The Suns get the two players. The two clubs swap 2028 first-rounders (the Hawks basically betting they'll be better than the Suns in two years' time). The Hawks pick up another 2028 second-round pick and the Suns move up slightly in the 2027 second round.
Utter trade period nonsense, how good.

All quiet at Collingwood... for now
What’s the latest on Houston and de Goey?
- Sam
For now, you can file both of those names in the rumour file.
The Dan Houston rumours have rumbled along though and popped up more regularly, even as recently as over the weekend. The Pies say they aren't looking to move him and he's not looking to leave, but it feels like there's more flexibility there than is being let on. Nothing concrete and no other clubs linked there though.
Jordan De Goey, I wouldn't expect any movement at all there.

More details about North's first Nick Blakey offer
(Getty Images)On Trade Radio this morning, Tom Morris has shed more light on the bones of the first North Melbourne offer to Sydney for Nick Blakey.
Morris says North offered the Swans pick six and a pick in the 30s, but wanted Sydney to send a pick in the 50s back along with Blakey. North don't currently have a pick in the 30s, so let's assume they were dealing with the pick 33 that may soon arrive for Zane Duursma.
That offer is waaaaaaaay short of anything Sydney would be expecting. Way short. The rejection would have come within about 15 seconds, and would have consisted entirely of crying laughing emojis.

Can Carlton get Lachie Whitfield in?
Is there a chance the Whitfield deal falls over if Carlton do not entertain giving an earlier pick? Also love this forum and commentary for the trade period, great stuff.
- X
(Getty Images)This one is certainly not a sure thing. Carlton is keen to use its two later picks in a deal for Whitfield, using the earlier ones to be ready for a Cody Walker bid. The Giants, it seems, want more than that.
To me, this feels like a trade that will get sorted by the deadline because I don't think the clubs are miles apart. But if given a choice between Whitfield and Walker, the Blues will prioritise Walker and make their decisions accordingly.

Demons increase Zane Duursma offer
(Getty Images)We knew this would be coming, but it's nice to see it happening early. AFL.com.au's Josh Gabelich reports Melbourne has increased its offer to North Melbourne for Zane Duursma, including pick 33 in the deal.
The two parties have been some way apart so far but this should bring a deal much closer. In saying that, the Roos need to eke out every last drop of every deal at the moment as they try to compile a package to satisfy the Swans for Nick Blakey. Watch this space.

Port Adelaide's pick five is up for grabs
(Getty Images)I suspected this might be the case when the megadeal went through on Friday, but it was confirmed in various reporting over the weekend. Port Adelaide is looking to trade out pick five in this year's draft to the highest bidder, safe in the knowledge it already has a healthy suite of picks after its previous dealings.
So who do they trade it to? It depends what they want. All of Richmond, West Coast, Carlton and Essendon are said to be in the race.
If they want future picks — and they very much do, as they will have at least two, or possibly three, highly rated players to match bids on in the 2027 draft — then they will be talking to Richmond and West Coast.
If they want picks this year — and they may well do, as it is a deep draft and the last pre-Tassie — then Carlton and Essendon have a better chance of turning their heads.
Reading between the lines, it seems Richmond is the current frontrunner. Having two top-five picks in this draft would be a coup for the Tigers. You could say the same for West Coast, but would the Eagles be willing to go above and beyond to secure the pick?
The bad news is there is no guarantee this trade gets done by Wednesday night, as there is another window over the next couple of weeks in which draft picks can be exchanged.

Some of the deals we're watching for this week
(Getty Images)Apologies for plagiarising myself here, but this list remains almost entirely unchanged from the one I posted on Friday afternoon:
- Nick Blakey to North Melbourne. How on earth do the Roos land this biggest of fishes?
- Lachie Whitfield to Carlton. It's gone a bit quiet, but the Blues are still working.
- Zane Duursma to Melbourne. The Dees have pick 33 now, and intend to use it.
- Nick Murray to North Melbourne. Surely the Roos can't get Blakey AND Murray done?
- Aidan Schubert to Gold Coast. Sounds like later picks will be getting passed around for this one.
- Sam Butler to Gold Coast. Should be going along for the ride with Schubert.
- Jack Viney to West Coast. Still waiting for his final decision, but sounds like he's off to the Eagles.
- Trent Rivers to West Coast. As above. How much will the Eagles be willing to pay for these two?
- Josh Goater to Hawthorn. North need picks now, what can the Hawks offer them?
- Jayden Short to Collingwood. Would the Tigers even play ball with the Pies?
- Luke Pedlar to Port Adelaide. The Power have been a bit preoccupied, but this should happen now.
- And then the speculative ones. Could Keidean Coleman still be on the move? Gryan Miers? Dan Houston?

Work to do on the massive Nick Blakey deal
(Getty Images)Nick Blakey wants to play for North Melbourne. North Melbourne wants Nick Blakey to play for them. Getting Sydney to agree with the whole thing is proving a bit more difficult.
According to Cal Twomey of AFL.com.au, North Melbourne lobbed its first offer to Sydney over the weekend. It was effectively pick six and a swap of some later selection. Sydney told them where to go.
It's going to take more, and potentially much more, than that for the Roos to get this deal done. They are going to have to get creative and aggressive to come up with a package that would satisfy the Swans.
This one could go all the way to the deadline.
