Armed cops have swooped on a busy city centre street this evening as Seel Street in Liverpool near the Ropewalks Hotel has become the centre for an intense emergence services operation

Police have cordoned off a part of one of Liverpool city centre's busiest streets as armed cops descended on Seel Street as part of a signifiecent emergency response.

Multiple police cars, matrix vans and two fire engines can be seen lining the street in images captured at the scene, while heavily armed officers from Merseyside police descended on the street.

Merseyside Police said: "We are in attendance on Seel Street, Liverpool this evening (Saturday 9 May) as part of enquires to locate a man who had been reported missing."

Statement shared from Ropewalks Hotel

Ropewalks hotel has shared a statement this evening. It said: "We can confirm that an incident at the hotel has now been safely resolved following the attendance of Merseyside Police and other emergency servies.

"The matter related to a welfare concern involving a guest and our priority throughout has been the safety and wellbeing of the individual concerned, our guests, our team and members of the public.

"We are grateful to Merseyside Police and the emergency services for their professionalism, care and support in bringing the situation to a safe conclusion."

Cordon being removed from Seel Street

According to reports from the scene the cordon is being removed at Seel Street after police were seen entering the hotel. The emergency services presence has been greatly reduced.

Photos takenat the scene show riot police using an extendibly ladder to look through a window on Seel street.

Alongside Merseyside Police and Merseyside Fire and Rescue, the police dog unit and ambulance service were also spotted at the scene.

Seel Street came to a standstill this evening after reports of a man is inside a hotel room and will not come outside. The riot police who are looking inside a room "keep looking over their shields".

Full statement from Merseyside Police

Merseyside Police has released a statement this evening about the ongoing incident on Seel Street. It said: "We are in attendance on Seel Street, Liverpool this evening (Saturday 9 May) as part of enquires to locate a man who had been reported missing.

"We were called shortly after 4pm to a report the man had been seen in the area.Upon arrival, threats were made by the man to officers from inside a hotel room on Seel Street and officers have put a containment in place as a precaution while they engage with the man.

"We would like to thank members of the public for their patience while this matter is being dealt with."
