In a shocking incident from Karnataka, a man has been arrested for allegedly killing his close friend to steal his money, which he later used to buy gifts for his estranged second wife.
As per a report by NDTV, the accused identified as Shafi, a resident of Birur in Chikkamagaluru district, allegedly murdered his friend Puttaraju, a welder, for financial gain.
Police reports indicate that the crime occurred on February 19. Shafi is reported to have lured Puttaraju under the false pretext of participating in a gold auction organised by a finance company. Trusting his friend’s invitation, Puttaraju left his home around 11 am, carrying approximately 2.5 lakh in cash.
The accused attacked his friend with a machete in a forest area near Honnavalli. His body was discovered next morning by a milk vendor.
The police was informed and the investigation led them to Shafi. During the probe, it was found that Shafi gave Rs 60,000 to his ex-wife and also bought her a new television using the victim’s money.
He was arrested and further investigation is underway.
