Manchester United will be aiming to continue their push for a Champions League spot against Bournemouth on Friday evening with boss Michael Carrick having given an injury update

Bournemouth are set to be without Tyler Adams for their clash with Manchester United on Friday. The Cherries host Michael Carrick’s side at the Vitality Stadium on Friday evening, with both clubs still in the race for a European spot.

United sit third after an impressive run of form under Carrick and could cut the gap to neighbours Manchester City to just four points with victory. Bournemouth in the meantime sit 10th but are just four points behind seventh-placed Brentford with eight games of the season left to play.

But Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola has confirmed that his side will be without the services of USA midfielder Adams. Speaking in his pre-match press conference, the Spanish coach said: "Tyler is not going to be available, as you suppose, because he hasn't been in the squad for the U.S.”

Adams, 27, joined Bournemouth from Leeds in 2023 and he has gone on to make 55 appearances for the club and has scored twice.

And while Adams is set to be out for the Cherries, United are able to call upon one of their own midfielders once more. Mason Mount has not made a Premier League appearance since mid-January.

He returned to the bench against Aston Villa and Carrick has suggested that he could be in line for a similar role vs Bournemouth. He said: “Starting would be too much at this point, from training time and the exposure he’s had.

“It’s brilliant to have him back, he’s a fantastic player and great to have around the group. The break coming up is a good time for him.”

Despite that positive news, there remains a few United stars ruled out including Matthijs de Ligt, Lisandro Martinez and Noussiar Mazraoui.

Carrick added: "It's [a] similar [situation] really [with De Ligt] and frustrating for Matta. He's obviously trying to work to get back but it's just the back issue, really, that's proving difficult. We'll keep working as hard as we can, to get him back as quickly as we can.

"[Lisandro is] closer, a lot closer. He's getting there, so after this one. I think he'll be alright. [Dorgu] is a bit further down the line but [Mazraoui] is just ill. He just wasn't feeling too good today."

Following the clash with Bournemouth, United have a two-week break due to March's international fixtures before a clash with Leeds United at Old Trafford in mid-April.
