Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayMichael Douglas has revealed that he asked Marvel Studios to kill off his character, Hank Pym, in Ant-Man. “I would have been killed off after the second one, but they wouldn’t let me,” Douglas said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.
The decorated actor shared that he wanted to star in a film that relies on CGI, adding, “I said, ‘I’ve never done a green screen movie.’ I [told] all my agents, ‘I’d like to do one of these green screen movies to see what they’re like,’ you know? Because it’s amazing. It’s nothing, just a green screen, and they show you the pictures of what it’s gonna look like when it’s all finished.”

He went on to joke about reading the “fine print” of his contract, remarking how “you can’t get out of it.” He also commented on starring opposite Paul Rudd, who he describes as “a wonderful actor” and that the cast, including Michelle Pfeiffer and Evangeline Lilly, was “a lovely group,”. Despite Douglas’s initial reservations about the character, he has reprised this role plenty of times since Ant-Man first hit our screens in 2015. He returned as Pym in 2018’s Ant-Man and the Wasp, 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, and 2023’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. He also voiced the character in episodes of the Disney+ animated series What If…?, between 2021 and 2023.
Douglas is well known for numerous projects outside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, having won two Academy Awards, five Golden Globe Awards and a Primetime Emmy Award for various works across his career. You can watch Douglas’s full interview below.
