After Strictly Come Dancing veterans Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman quit the show together at the end of the last series, BBC bosses are looking for their next hosts amid a major shake-up

After Strictly stalwarts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman announced their shock departure, all eyes are on potential replacements for the upcoming series. As BBC bosses continue to reshuffle the scandal-hit show, with a 'bloodbath' of professionals recently axed, Strictly superfan Miranda Hart is reportedly in talks with producers to join the team.

The comedian, writer and actress is reportedly a favourite for the show, with execs believing her sense of humour would bring a much-needed light-hearted element to the all-important host role. Miranda previously supported her long-term friend Sarah Hadland during her 2024 Strictly stint, with the star regularly spotted in the audience.

As reported by the Sun, a source said: "Miranda signing for Strictly would be a massive coup for the BBC. The feeling is that her style of comedy is very similar to Claudia’s sense of humour, making her a perfect replacement."

Claudia quit with her co-host Tess Daly at the end of last season, with the show now scrambling to find replacements for the much-loved presenters. According to the insider, Miranda was considered for a role as a main presenter, but "her job would be talking to the celebs, dancers and judges."

Miranda's self-titled hit sitcom, which ran from 2009 to 2015, was the work that propelled her to fame, with the star previously revealing that she turned her back on fame in favour of the "simple life". Writing in her book, I Haven’t Been Entirely Honest With You, she admitted she no longer courts fame and wants to keep things simple.

She says: "I just wake up and think ‘right, what am I going to do today?’ It’s walking the dog, it's playing games with my husband, watching telly and doing a bit of writing. I find life much "free-er" and happier, because of that. It is a very simple life, which I love.”

Apart from doing the odd chat show, Miranda's last major TV work was back in January 2020, when she marked the 10th anniversary of her BB1 sitcom with the celebratory special show Miranda: My Such Fun Celebration. The career defining show not only marked the success of her semi-autobiographical series, it also celebrated her 20 year career in TV, starting in 2001 with various sit-coms including Channel 4's Smack The Pony. Miranda also portrayed Camilla "Chummy" Fortescue-Cholmeley-Browne in series 1-4 of Call The Midwife.

Meanwhile, other names in the running for hosting duties on the upcoming series of Strictly include Zoe Ball, Emma Willis and comedian and presenter Mel Giedroyc at present. While those in the running for the coveted male spot include Rylan Clark, Bradley Walsh and the current professional dancer Johannes Radebe.

It has been reported that BBC bosses are keen to include a male presenter to co-host the TV ballroom dancing show to give the long-running format a huge shake-up. The brand new male presenter will host alongside the female favourites with the top three choices.

A source close to the show told The Sun on Sunday: "Bradley and Rylan have been tipped for the gig, but Johannes is a new contender. All are very keen to land the role and offer a different perspective."

They added: "The intention would be to team the chosen man up with a female. It will be a return to the years when Tess co-hosted with Bruce, which was a very popular format."

"The show’s executive producers feel Bradley has a similar style to Bruce — he can tell jokes, sing and has lots of charisma. Rylan has a massive fanbase and used to host Strictly spin-off It Takes Two, while Johannes offers expertise.”
