Manchester Airport: TUI Boeing 737 makes emergency landing

This is the moment a TUI flight made a dramatic emergency landing at Manchester Airport.

The Boeing 737 was met by fire engines when it touched down on Friday morning. Footage captured by plane spotting channel Ace Planespotting shows substantial plumes of smoke billowing from the aircraft's tyres as it made contact with the runway.

Technical problems meant the Mallorca-bound flight was forced to return to Manchester shortly after departing at 7.30am.

Flight tracking data shows it headed east and circled over the Peak District before returning to Manchester to execute the emergency landing. The aircraft was then accompanied to a hangar by firefighters, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Ace Planespotting said: "It landed at a much higher speed than planes normally would. It created an large amount of tyre smoke as it touched down. It was very dramatic."

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said the emergency landing appeared to have been caused by a 'flap issue'. However, the spokesperson added inspections conducted after landing 'didn't show any issues or adverse readings'.

TUI has been approached for comment.
