“At least ten people have died amid heavy rain and flood-like situations in Palghar district of Maharashtra since July 1, including three casualties in the last 24 hours, while 1,261 residents have been evacuated and relocated to relief centres,” a senior official said on Tuesday (July 7, 2026).

Addressing a press conference, district Collector Indu Rani Jakhar said the Palghar district recorded an average rainfall of 203 mm (in more than 24 hours) till 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday.

As part of disaster management operations, 389 families comprising 1,261 individuals have been safely evacuated and relocated to institutional relief centres, including schools, churches, and community halls in Palghar, Vasai, and Wada talukas.

To assist local authorities, one team each of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has been deployed in Virar.

The continuous downpour has triggered flood-like situations in several pockets, prompting the administration to rescue and relocate people.

“Rain-related incidents include wall collapse and drownings in nullahs and flooded fields in various parts of Palghar, including Vasai, Talasari, and Dahanu,” according to officials. - PTI

Rain lashed the national capital on Tuesday afternoon (July 7, 2026), bringing some respite from the heat. The India Meteorological Department issued ‘red’ and ‘orange’ alerts for rain and strong winds across the city.

According to the IMD district-level nowcast, a ‘red’ alert was issued for parts of north Delhi, where moderate rain at many places and heavy rain at isolated places accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and winds with speeds reaching up to 70 kmph are likely.

An ‘orange’ alert was issued for the rest of Delhi, where moderate rain at most places along with thunderstorms, lightning and wind speeds reaching up to 50-60 kmph are expected.

The Weather Department has forecast generally cloudy skies with moderate rain during the day. The maximum temperature is likely to settle around 36 degrees Celsius. - PTI

“Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms was recorded at isolated places across Rajasthan on Tuesday (July 7, 2026),” the weather office said.

Jaswantpura in Jalore district recorded the highest rainfall in the State at 91 mm during the period.

The Department has issued an orange alert (heavy to very heavy rainfall) for Banswara, Baran, Chittorgarh, Dungarpur, Jhalawar, Pratapgarh, Salumbar and Udaipur districts.

No alert has been issued for Barmer and Jaisalmer districts, while the remaining districts of the State are under yellow alert for light to moderate rain.

For Wednesday (July 8, 2026), an orange alert has been issued for Baran, Bundi, Jhalawar and Kota districts, while all other districts except Barmer and Jaisalmer are under yellow alert. - PTI

Heavy waterlogging was reported in parts of Surat city, Gujarat, as intense rainfall continued across the district. Several roads and low-lying areas were inundated, disrupting traffic and affecting normal public life. The persistent downpour has led to water accumulation at multiple locations, with authorities monitoring the situation.

A red alert was issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday (July 7, 2026) in Kerala’s Wayanad district, where very heavy rainfall was received in Mananthavady and Vythiri areas during the day.

The alert was issued at 12.30 p.m. after the landslip at the Kalladi tunnel project site in Wayanad at around 11 a.m.

A red alert was also sounded in the neighbouring Kozhikode district by the IMD, while orange alerts were issued in the Malappuram, Kannur and Kasaragod districts of the State.

The Mananthavady area received 64 mm of rainfall, and Vythiri received 123 mm during the day.

A red alert indicates extremely heavy rainfall of more than 204 mm in 24 hours, while an orange alert means very heavy rain of 115 mm to 204 mm, and a yellow alert means heavy rainfall between 64 mm to 115 mm.

While Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan confirmed one death in the landslip, seven persons are admitted to hospitals. The Chief Minister also said that another seven persons are missing. 

Those living in nearby areas are being evacuated.

A senior government official said there were no workers at the site and those feared trapped under the mud were engineers and security staff. - PTI

The river at Alandi overflowed following heavy rainfall in the region, prompting authorities to close all four bridges to vehicular and pedestrian traffic as a precautionary measure. The continued rainfall has led to a rise in the water level, and officials are monitoring the situation while urging residents and commuters to avoid the affected areas. 

Two engineering students from Andhra Pradesh, who were stranded in a dangerous situation at Mallalli falls in Kodagu district, were safely rescued by personnel of the Fire and Emergency Services Department on Monday (July 6, 2026). 

The rescued students were identified as Ganesh Nayak and Santosh Kumar, both 23 years old and final-year B.Tech students from Anantapur district in Andhra Pradesh. Fire and Emergency Services personnel launched the rescue operation after receiving a distress call around noon and brought the duo to safety.

Mallalli falls, located in Somwarpet taluk, is witnessing a heavy flow following heavy rainfall in the area. With the southwest monsoon intensifying, the Kodagu district administration has been urging tourists and the public to stay away from waterfalls, rivers and other vulnerable locations.

“The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an ‘orange’ alert, forecasting heavy rain and gusty winds in the metropolis,” officials said.

“All government, private and civic-run schools and colleges in Mumbai will remain closed on Tuesday (July 7, 2026) as a precautionary measure,” officials said.

A heavy downpour in several parts of the Malnad region in Karnataka prompted the local administration to declare a holiday for schools and colleges in select taluks.

Primary schools, high schools and anganwadi centres in Koppa, Sringeri and Mudigere taluks of Chikkamagaluru district remained closed on July 7.

In Shivamogga district, schools and anganwadi centres remain closed in Tirthahalli, Sagar and Bhadravati taluks.

At least one reported dead, seven are missing, and seven are hospitalised at Kalladi near Meppadi in Wayanad following a massive mudslide triggered by torrential monsoon rains near the entrance of the under-construction Wayanad tunnel road (Anakkampoyil–Kalladi–Meppadi) project linking Kozhikode to Wayanad on Tuesday (July 7, 2026). A major rescue operation is underway.

The CM has said that two Ministers, A.P. Anil Kumar and T. Siddique, are leaving for Wayanad immediately.

Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar said the State Government would declare a drought (in affected areas) after assessing the conditions prevailing across Karnataka in accordance with the legal framework governing such declarations.

Opposition members demanded a discussion in the Maharashtra Assembly on the heavy rain situation in the State, citing loss of lives and widespread damage.

Speaker Rahul Narwekar said the adjournment notices moved by the Opposition did not meet the prescribed rules and were therefore not admitted. He, however, asked the Opposition to raise the issue through a short-duration or a half-an-hour discussion, and said he would also permit the government to make a statement on the matter.

Nana Patole (the Congress) urged the chair to suspend the day’s business to discuss the impact of heavy rains, particularly in Mumbai, Thane and other parts of the State. He said members from both the Treasury and Opposition benches wanted to deliberate on the loss of lives, damage caused by the rains and measures to deal with the situation.

Supporting the demand, Jayant Patil of Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar) said 12 persons died in rain-related incidents over the last two to three days. He alleged administrative lapses and said the Opposition was not trying to politicise the tragedy but wanted the government to respond to the situation.

Shiv Sena (UBT) member Bhaskar Jadhav claimed that 20 to 25 persons died and that not just in cities, there have been rain-related losses in rural areas as well. - PTI

Trustees of the Shri Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Sansthan on Tuesday (July 7, 2026) appealed to ‘warkaris’ to avoid travelling to Alandi in Pune district for the annual ‘palkhi’ departure ceremony, citing the severe flood situation, and join the procession at a later halt once weather conditions improve.

They said the palkhi (palanquin) departure ritual scheduled on July 8 will be held with only a limited number of participants.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the trustees after reviewing the flood situation in Alandi, where the swollen Indrayani river has crossed the danger mark following incessant rains in Maharashtra.

Every year, lakhs of warkaris (devotees of Lord Vitthal) participate in the wari pilgrimage, joining the palkhi procession of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj from Alandi and of Sant Tukaram from Dehu to Lord Vitthal’s temple in Pandharpur town of Solapur district, ahead of Ashadhi Ekadashi. - PTI

“Incessant, torrential overnight rain has severely disrupted normal life in parts of Nilgiris district on Tuesday (July 7, 2026),” sources said.

Owing to heavy rain in the Gudalur, Pandalur, and Cherangode areas of the district and subsequent flooding, Nilgiris district Collector Bhavya Tanniru has declared a holiday for schools in the Pandalur region on Tuesday.

According to official reports, Cherambadi recorded the maximum rainfall of 88 mm. Local rivers and streams are in spate, prompting authorities to monitor low-lying areas closely.

Incessant heavy rainfall has triggered a major landslip in Maharashtra’s Ratnagiri district, burying five houses and trapping residents under the debris, police said today.

The incident occurred in the Dahivali area of Khed tehsil on Monday (July 6, 2026) night, following which a 75-year-old woman, Kalpana Shelar, was safely rescued, they said.

Two other persons, identified as Shantaram Shelar and Satish Shelar, remained trapped. Teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), local police and other emergency agencies rushed to the spot and launched an intensive search and rescue operation, officials said.

Maharashtra Minister Uday Samant visited the incident site this morning to review the rescue efforts and assess the situation.

Several parts of the State have been witnessing heavy rains for the last few days, triggering landslides, tree falls and waterlogging.

The Thane district administration in Maharashtra has banned entry to all tourist destinations, including forts and water bodies, until further notice due to heavy rain forecasts.

Collector Dr Shrikrishna Panchal issued the order under the Disaster Management Act on Monday, prohibiting entry to forts, waterfalls, dams, lakes, and rivers to prevent accidents during the monsoon.

Over the past three days, the district has faced waterlogging, fallen trees, and traffic chaos.

Flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall struck the upper reaches of Thathri town in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district on Tuesday (July 7, 2026), partially damaging several houses, shops and vehicles. No loss of life has been reported. 

The latest flash flood is the third such incident in the twin districts of Doda and Kishtwar in the past two days, following heavy rainfall that has battered the mountainous region.

Delhi woke up to a warm morning on Tuesday (July 7, 2026) with the minimum temperature settling at 30 degrees Celsius, 2.1 notches above the season’s normal.

The minimum temperature was the highest recorded in this month since July 2, 2024, when the city had recorded a minimum temperature of 30.7 degrees Celsius.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the ‘feels like’ temperature at 8:30 am was 44.7 degrees Celsius as relative humidity stood at 79%.

Nashik district in Maharashtra is on high alert, as visuals showed heavy rains continuing to lash the region.

A whopping 600 mm of rainfall in just 24 hours triggered multiple landslides in the Karjat-Lonavala Ghat section on the Mumbai-Pune line, severely disrupting rail traffic over the last two days, officials said.

Lonavala, a popular hill station located in Pune district, recorded 670 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours ending at 7 am on Monday (July 6, 2026), as per official data.

Pune district witnessed landslides at 22 places over the last two days, according to officials.

The ghat section had also received around 300 mm of rainfall on Sunday, Central Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer Swapnil Nila said.

Himachal Pradesh Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Vikramaditya Singh said he will chair a high-level review meeting on disaster preparedness and monsoon response with senior department officials.

Speaking to ANI, Mr. Singh said the meeting would review road connectivity, bridge installations, deployment of heavy machinery and the state’s preparedness to deal with monsoon-related disruptions.

“We are making every effort. I have convened a high-level meeting tomorrow with senior PWD officials. We will review in detail where bridges need to be installed, where heavy machinery and robotic equipment need to be deployed and what additional measures are required. Every effort will be made to reopen roads immediately wherever they are blocked due to the monsoon,” he said.

A two-year-old girl died and several others were affected as depression-induced rainfall lashed Odisha, with flood fears looming large in the Baitarani River, officials said on Monday (July 6, 2026).

The girl, identified as Chandini Munda, died due to a wall collapse in Thakurmunda area in Mayurbhanj district on Sunday (July 5, 2026) night.

“The girl was sleeping in a dilapidated house along with her mother. Though two others escaped, the little girl died,” Thakurmunda police station inspector-in-charge Tushar Ranjan Nayak said.

A 45-year-old man, identified as Suresh Maharana, went missing after being swept away by a sudden surge of water in a drainage channel at Bagdihipada on the outskirts of Sambalpur on Sunday (July 5, 2026) night.

Heavy rains lashed Palghar on Monday (July 6, 2026) , resulting in the death of one person, while hundreds of families had to be evacuated to safety, officials said. As of Monday (July 6, 2026) morning, the district recorded an average rainfall of 132.1 mm, with cumulative rainfall estimated to have breached the 350 mm to 400 mm mark. Vasai taluka recorded the highest downpour at 203.0 mm, followed by Wada at 180.6 mm, Palghar at 164.6 mm, and Dahanu at 103.1 mm.

“A total of 286 families from hamlets near Zanzroli dam region, including Mandal Pada, Devshet Pada, and Dhondal Pada, were shifted to secure locations. In other flood-prone areas, an additional 491 citizens were relocated, including 195 from Chandrapada–Wakipada in Vasai, 65 from Kaman–Bhendipada–Morigaon, 76 from Arnala, and 56 from Tembhi,” Collector Indu Rani Jakhar said.

The heavy downpour also inflicted damage on infrastructure, officials said.

All government, private and civic-run schools and colleges in Mumbai will remain closed on Tuesday (July 7, 2026) in view of the India Meteorological Department’s ‘orange’ alert for heavy rain and gusty winds in the metropolis, officials said.

In a release issued on Monday (July 6, 2026) night, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said holiday for educational institutions has been declared as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students in view of the IMD’s forecast.

The BMC urged citizens to venture outdoors only if necessary and advised them to contact its helpline 1916 in case of any emergency.

Multiple landslides were triggered in the Karjat-Lonavala Ghat section on the Mumbai-Pune line after it received a whopping 600 millimetres of rainfall in a 24-hour period, severely disrupting rail traffic, Central Railway officials said on Monday (July 6, 2026).

The Ghat section had also received around 300 mm of rainfall the previous day, CR Chief Public Relations Officer Swapnil Nila said.

“About 160 mm of rain fell in the first four hours on Sunday (July 5, 2026), leading to landslides at multiple vulnerable locations. The first landslide occurred near Thakurwadi, impacting all three lines in Bhor Ghat, followed by another between Monkey Hill and Khandala,” he pointed out.

“Tracks have suffered extensive damage at some locations but prompt restoration work has been undertaken despite incessant rain in the Ghat section since early morning,” Mr. Nila said.

Traffic on the Mumbai-bound carriageway of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway’s ‘Missing Link’ bypass section resumed on Monday (July 6, 2026) night after remaining shut for more than 18 hours following a landslide triggered by overnight heavy rains, officials said.

A senior official of the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) told PTI that traffic resumed at 10.10 p.m. after safety inspections were completed at the landslide-hit site.

The Mumbai-bound carriageway had been closed after a landslide near the exit of Tunnel 2, the longest tunnel on the Missing Link -- that cuts through the Sahyadri mountains -- at around 4 a.m.
