Prime Minister Mark Carney held a media availability Sunday, the last full day of his two-day visit to Ireland, and said it's imperative that Canada deepen ties with the European Union. "It is never a good idea to have one option. If I took one lesson from the financial crisis, it is that we had a series of financial institutions which were linked up in one way. And as soon as one of them started having problems, you feared that everybody was about to have problems," Carney said. Answering a question, he also said that although Canada had signed a trade deal with Ireland, it had not been fully ratified before his trip, underlining the importance of his state visit. Talking about the upcoming G7 meet in France, Carney said, "We will take steps not everyone around the table will. In some of those circumstances, the United States will be four square behind. In many cases, but not all," he said.
