Amid mounting concerns over reports of a proposed railway line through the ecologically sensitive Kodagu district, Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, Mysuru-Kodagu MP, has clarified that no such proposal is currently before the Ministry of Railways.

The clarification follows Mr. Wadiyar’s meeting with Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi, during which a range of railway infrastructure and connectivity issues relating to the Mysuru-Kodagu Parliamentary Constituency were discussed.

In a statement issued after the meeting, the MP said recent reports and public discussions regarding a possible railway route through Kodagu had triggered apprehension among residents and environmental stakeholders. However, he said the Railways Minister had confirmed that the Ministry is not considering any proposal for a railway line passing through the district at present.

Mr. Wadiyar stressed that any future infrastructure project affecting the region would be taken up only after consultations with all stakeholders. Environmental concerns, local conditions, and the developmental interests of the district would be carefully evaluated before any decision is made, he said.

Reiterating his commitment to the balanced development of Kodagu, the MP said efforts to improve connectivity and infrastructure would go hand in hand with the preservation of the district’s fragile ecosystem and rich cultural heritage.

He also assured residents that he would remain in constant touch with the Railways Ministry on issues concerning the region’s development and connectivity needs.

Appealing to the public not to be swayed by speculation, Mr. Wadiyar said any official development on the issue would be communicated transparently through the appropriate channels.
