A non-league football match was brought to a standstill for approximately an hour following reports of crowd trouble

The clash between Yate Town FC and Weymouth FC on Saturday afternoon was put on hold after just one minute when the visiting side scored.

Both clubs kept fans and followers updated about the situation via X. At 3.26pm, Yate Town FC posted: "A serious incident has happened in the crowd and the game has been suspended since the first minute with both sets of players currently off the field of play."

Weymouth FC then issued a statement of their own at 3.38pm updating supporters. Their post read: "Due to an incident at the stadium there has been a long delay in play. A further update will follow."

A subsequent update was provided at 3.53pm, announcing: "Following an incident at the ground the match will resume at 4pm with 44 minutes of the first half remaining."

Additional reports indicate that there was significant brawling between home and away supporters, as per Bristol Live.

The match, part of the Southern League and hosted at Yate Town's Lodge Road ground, did recommence at 4pm with the score already at 0-1 after Weymouth netted 40 seconds into the match. By half time, Weymouth had added another goal, making the score 0-2 to the visitors.

In the 88th minute, Yate Town were shown a yellow card and by the 90th minute, three minutes of stoppage time was signalled. However, it proved insufficient to alter the outcome and Weymouth departed as 2-0 winners.
