Indian Oil, BPCL, and HPCL assured that petrol and diesel supplies in India are normal despite shortage rumours, confirming sufficient stocks and smooth supply networks.
State-run oil marketing companies Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum (HPCL) have assured that petrol and diesel supplies across India remain normal and there is no need for panic buying.
The clarification comes after rumours about a possible fuel shortage began circulating on social media amid rising tensions in West Asia. The companies said India has sufficient fuel stocks and that supply and distribution networks are functioning smoothly.
In a post on X, Indian Oil said claims of a shortage are baseless and urged citizens not to rush to petrol pumps.
“Reports on social media suggesting a shortage of petrol and diesel are baseless. India has sufficient fuel stocks, and supply and distribution networks are functioning normally," the company said.
BPCL and HPCL also issued similar statements, stressing that fuel reserves are adequate and supply chains across the country are operating without disruption. Both companies appealed to the public not to rely on rumours or crowd-fuelled stations.
Officials noted that India currently remains in a comfortable position in terms of crude oil and petroleum product stocks. Authorities also said the country can increase imports from alternative sources if any disruption occurs in global supply routes.
Concerns over fuel supply have risen globally due to escalating tensions in West Asia, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, a key maritime route through which a significant portion of the world’s oil shipments pass.
