(Bloomberg) — Kyiv’s forces attacked an oil terminal in St. Petersburg, Russia’s second largest city, with drones overnight, local officials said, while Ukraine said a gas production facility was struck by Russia.

UAVs targeted the facility in the city’s Kirovsky district, St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov said on Telegram. The “technogenic” consequences on the attack have been eliminated and there were no injuries, he added.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed strikes on “port oil infrastructure” and also claimed a hit on Kronstadt, near St. Petersburg, the main base for Russia’s Baltic Fleet, which Russia hasn’t confirmed.

In all, Russia’s air defenses shot down 72 drones overnight over the Leningrad region, bordering St. Petersburg, according to Governor Alexander Drozdenko’s post on Telegram. The region and the city are home to several Baltic Sea ports that are crucial for Russian oil exports. There are no reports of casualties or damage, Drozdenko said.

St. Petersburg previously faced a massive drone attack in early June, when the city hosted President Vladimir Putin’s flagship annual economic forum.

Ukraine’s intensive attacks on Russian oil refineries and energy infrastructure in recent months have resulted in widespread fuel shortages. In recent days, some 90% of Russian regions have faced gasoline-supply issues.

Russia intercepted a total of 389 drones overnight across various regions, the defense ministry said. The strikes followed a large-scale Russian missile and drone attack on Kyiv this week that killed at least 30 people and injured almost 100.

The Ukrainian state energy company Naftogaz said in emailed statement that company’s gas production facility in the Poltava region of central Ukraine suspended operations after an attack by Russian military early Saturday morning.

In all, Ukraine’s General Staff said its military intercepted 69 out of 86 Russian drones overnight, while 17 drones and two missiles hit different locations across the country.
