Nicknamed the “Sooner State”–a historical reference to non-Native settlers who staked land claims before the official opening or appropriation dates–Oklahoma shipped US$7.5 billion worth of exported products around the world in 2025.

That dollar amount results from a 10.3% increase from $6.8 billion four years earlier in 2022.

Year over year, the overall value of Oklahoman exports slowed by -3.7% compared to $7.8 billion during 2024.

Located in America’s South Central region, Oklahoma ranks 38th among America’s most lucrative exporters by state well behind front-runners including Texas, California, New York state, Louisiana, Illinois and Florida.

The value of Oklahoma’s exports equals 0.3% of the United States’ overall exported product sales (US$2.178 trillion) for 2025, down from 0.4% for 2024.

Oklahoma’s exported products represent 2.7% of the state’s total economic output or nominal Gross Domestic Product in 2025 ($274.4 billion).

Given Oklahoma’s population of 4.1 million people, its total US$7.5 billion in 2025 exports translates to roughly $1,850 for every resident in the Sooner State. That dollar metric lags the average $1,900 per capita one year earlier in 2024.

Oklahoma’s unemployment rate was 4% at the end of July 2025, up from 3.1% one year earlier per YCharts.

The following export products represent the highest dollar value in Oklahoma global shipments during 2025. Also shown is the percentage share each export category represents in terms of overall exports from Oklahoma.

Figures are shown at the more granular six-digit Harmonized Tariff System code level, for more precise product identification.

  1. Civilian aircraft, aircraft engines or other parts: US$1.1 billion (14.3% of total Oklahoman exports)
  2. Turbo-jet or turbo-propeller parts $593.9 million (7.9%)
  3. Medications packaged for retail sale: $321.6 million (4.3%)
  4. Miscellaneous coins: $214 million (2.9%)
  5. Bombs, mines, similar ammunition: $178.5 million (2.4%)
  6. Buses, other public transport vehicles (diesel): $158.2 million (2.1%)
  7. Organic precious metal compounds, amalgams: $115.8 million (1.5%)
  8. Natural polymers: $106 million (1.4%)
  9. Industrial heat exchange units: $105.8 million (1.4%)
  10. Pipe taps, similar parts: $104.5 million (1.4%)

Oklahoma’s top 10 exports approached two-fifths (39.6%) of the overall value of the state’s global shipments.

Bombs, mines and similar ammunition represent the fastest grower among Oklahoma’s top 10 export categories, up by 4,040% from 2024 to 2025.

In second place for Oklahoma’s improving export sales were miscellaneous coins via a 358.2% annual gain.

Medications packaged for retail sale rose 201.1% from 2024, ahead of Oklahoma’s exports of buses and other public transport vehicles powered by diesel or semi-diesel engines due to that category’s 44% advance.

The severest decliners were for Oklahoman exports of pipe taps and similar parts (down -22.5% from 2024), civilian aircraft fully assembled or aircraft engines or other parts (down -18.3%), organic precious metal compounds and amalgams (down -16.3%) then parts for turbojets or turbopropellers (down -11.3%).

More Key Facts about Oklahoma’s International Trade

Oklahoma incurred an overall -US$9.6 billion deficit exporting and importing products during 2025. That dollar amount reflects a -5.5% year-over-year reduction from -$10.1 billion in red ink for 2024.

Another way of saying surplus or deficit is positive or negative net exports. In a nutshell, the term “net exports” quantifies the amount by which foreign spending on a state’s goods or services exceeds or lags that same state’s spending on foreign goods or services.

All Oklahoman imports during 2025 totaled US$17.1 billion.

Below are Oklahoma’s top 10 import products highlighting the state’s highest spending on foreign-made goods in 2025.

  1. Crude petroleum oils: US$6.2 billion (36.2% of total Oklahoman imports)
  2. Higher-thrust turbo-jets: $530.4 million (3.1%)
  3. Electric machinery, appliances: $261.7 million (1.5%)
  4. Decorative items for Christmas festivities: $254.1 million (1.5%)
  5. Small portable digital computers: $240.8 million (1.4%)
  6. Liquid pump parts: $234.9 million (1.4%)
  7. Miscellaneous digital processing units: $176.5 million (1%)
  8. Centrifugal pumps: $147.4 million (0.9%)
  9. Parts of planes or helicopters: $139 million (0.8%)
  10. Pipe taps, similar parts: $125.1 million (0.7%)

The State of Oklahoma incurs the largest negative net exports in the international trade of crude petroleum oils. In turn, these cashflows indicate Oklahoma’s competitive disadvantage–and dependency–under that product category.
