As many as 1,05,767 persons were bound over and 2,726 pending non-bailable warrants (NBWs) were executed to ensure the peaceful conduct of the local body elections in the State, Director-General of Police Harish Kumar Gupta said.

The police seized cash worth ₹4.91 lakh, liquor valued at ₹11.99 lakh, illicitly distilled liquor worth ₹39,000 and 495 kg of ganja, he said.

A total of 261 election-related cases were registered between October 15 and 29, leading to the arrest of 107 persons. Notices were also served on 733 persons.

Tirupati district reported the highest number of cases at 61, followed by Kadapa (36), Annamayya (31), Anantapur (26) and Markapuram (22).

The police arrested 51 persons in Annamayya district, 27 in Tirupati, 16 in Kadapa and eight in Prakasam district, Mr. Gupta said on Friday.

Foolproof security arrangements had been made at 4,372 locations across the State for the Urban Local Body elections. Stern action would be taken against anyone attempting to obstruct the polling process or intimidate voters through violence, he said.
